Question About Labu
f
A judge of one of the United States
eircuit courts has a five-year-old niece
of whom he is very proud. A few days
ago she came to him and said with a
very serious air:
"Uncle. there is a question about law
I want to ask you."
"Well, dear, what is it?" patiently inquired
the jndye.
"Uncle, ifavkianvkad a peacock and it
went into another man's yard and laid
an egg who would the egg belong to?"
The judge smiled indulgently and replied:
s "Why, the egg would belong to the
man who owned the peacock, but he
could be prosecuted for trespassing if

A Cruel Husband.
"Why, daughter." said the rich father
of the girl who married the penniless
nobleman, "what does this mean? How
comes it that you are home again, with
all your trunks?" '
"Father," wept the girl, "I cannot
live with the duke any longer."
"Can't live with him any longer! Has
he been cruel to you?"
"Indeed he has." she sobbed, clinging
to the tender hearted old man. "He is
always taunting me with our poverty."
"Poverty! Why. dadgum him. Didn't
I buy him outright for you?"
"That's just it. He sneers that we
were so poor that he was the best we
could afford."?Philadelphia Ledger.

Down the middle of the road of a
suburban town the street car tracks
lay shining in the broiling sun. On
either side the footpath wound cool
and dark in the shadow of giant trees,
which rustled invitingly with every
breeze. In the shadow of one of these
trees stood a man; cool, calm and serene.
A woman, obviously of the working
class, came toward him. She
6tooped beneath the weight of an enormous
parcel ? doubtless her portable
trunk. The perspiration lay in great
crystal beads on her brow and rolled
riotously down her nose.
"Can you tell me the way to the station
V" she asked the man.
He was a friendly person, of an inquiring
turn of mind.
"Going to the city?" he asked pleasantly.
"Sure," she said. "I came out here
to be a waitress in a hotel, but the
work didn't agree wid me. Does you

The man didn't.
"Then." she said, "if you'll just tell
me the way to the station I'll be going."
"Why," said the man, "just take the
car." Then, as he saw the girl flush
slightly, he tactfully added, "Or, if you
prefer walking, you might just follow
the car tracks."
"And sure," she said smilingly, "I
like walking. Did you say just to follow
the tracks?" and as the man nodded
pleasantly she started off toward
the middle of the road, and the last he
saw of her she was trudging slowly
down between the tracks, wearily
shifting her parcel from one drooping
shoulder to the other.
The man watched her in silence for
a minute; theu, turning to a well dressed
woman who had been standing
waiting for the car uear enough to
hear the entire conversation, he sighed,
"Well, I'll be bio wed if that ain't the

People who have tried change of climate
in vain for the cure of weak lungs
have been perfectly and permanently
cured by the use of Dr. Pierce's Golden
Medical Discovery. It cures deep-seated
coughs, bronchitis, bleeding lungs, emaciation,
ana other conditions which, if
neglected or unskilfully treated, find a
fatal end in consumption.
"Last spring I had a severe attack of pneumonia
which left me with a very bad cough,
and also left my lungs in a very bad condition,"
writes John M. Russell. Esq.. of Brent, Cherokee
Nat.. Ind. Ty. "I had no appetite and was so
week I could scarcely walk. My breast \vas all
sore with running sores. I got two bottles of Dr.
Pierce * Golden .Medical Discovery, which I believe
saved my life. I cauirot express my gratitude
to yen. I am able now to do very good
work."
Any substitute offered as "just as good"
as "Golden Medical Discovery" is a
shadow of that medicine. There are
cures behind every claim made for the
"Discovery," which no "just as good"
medicine can show.
