Miss Eldora Sinks, of Marengo, Iowa, has received notice that ?500,000 was bequeathed to her by 13. J. Thompson, of Colorado Springs. Thompson was a mine owner and a bachelor when Miss Sinks, with a party of friends, visited Colorado three years ago and became acquainted with him. He was evidently attracted to her. She spent the entire summer in the West and, returning home, supposed she would never again hear of her middle-aged admirer. Recently the notice of his death came, with the statement that he had willed his entire estate to her, having no heirs. Cures Chills and Fever. G. W. George Jones had been in the Oikland, Cal., county jail for 13 years, awaiting trial, haB died there, aged j 93 years. He had been incarcerated j since January 1885, for the murder of Lorenzo Suitlo. Ke was convicted June 5, 1881, of the murder and sentenced to be hanged July 11. He succeeded in gaining a new trial. About the time the trial was to begin Jones was taken with a stroke of papalysis and has never been able to leave his bed. Time and again the case was set for trial, but a continuance always was granted. Laborers digging an arte?iao well at Bone3teel, S D, have unearthed a hurnen skeleton fifty feet beneath the surface. The skeleton was in an i excellent state of preservation, and is believed by scientists to be that of a prehistoric man. The association of commissioners of agriculture for the Southern States at their meeting in Montgomery, Ala , gave their estimate of the cotton crop as 10,000,271.
