The State Fair opens in Columbia
next Tuesday.

Hon. A. Frank Lever is in town
taking in the County Fair.
The county fair is now in full blast
and the attendance is very large.
All ready some people are registering
kicks against the weather.
A heavy frost was reported from
the low grounds Monday morning.
Meet us at the State Fair next
week with that dollar you owe us.
There is only one prisoner now confined
in the jail of Lexington county.
The annex to the store house of D*
E. Ballentine is nearing completion.

county will be represented at the
State Fair this year.
The colored Baptist of the county
are holding an association meeting in
the church in this place.

on business and called in to see us. <

Mr. Simon Biekley, of the High '
Hill section of the Fork sold a load
of oats in town Friday and was trading
with our merchants.

Mrs. John 0. Swygert, who has 4
been visiting her daughter, Mrs.
James H. Hope, in this place returned
to her home in Peak Monday.
Since the end of the Tillman trial ,
the telegraph offices of both the com- <
panies have closed, and the genial and 4
gentlemanly operators have "vamoos- ,
ed the ranch."
The furniture of Ballentine Lodge, -
No. 75,1. O. 0. F., is being moved
from its present location to the hall <
over the Episcopal chapel, at which
place the lodge will meet in the .

Minnie, an attractive daughter
of Mr. Arthur Nunamaker of the
Fork, and one of Young's popular
clerks, came over from Columbia
today and is taking in the County
Fair.
We have again made arrangements
whereby we can offer tc cash subscribers

and Farm for $1.25 a year.
Mr. Lawrence Sease, President of
the Prosperity Cotton Oil Mill and a
prominent educator of that progressive
town, visited his old home in this
county last week and while in town
called in to see us.

Miss Sue Corley has resumed the
exercises of her school at Smith
Branch academy. Miss Sue is one cf
the most intelligent and accomplished
teachers now engaged in the public
Bchool service of the county.
A telegram was received at this
place yesterday afternoon by F. E.
Dreher, Esq., announcing the death
of Mr. George D. Tillman, brother
of Colonel James H. Tillman, at his

James. W. Kaminer, a prominent
farmer of the Pelion section died

after a long and painful illness.
During which he suffered much. He
was a good citizen, a kind neighbor
an affectionate husband and an
indulgent father. He was buried in
St. Peter's cemetery Thursday, in the
presence of his relatives, neighbors
and friends.
Jake Geiger has sworn out a warrant
against lawyers E. L. Asbill and
T. C. Sturkie, charging the former
with carrying conoeled weapons and
trespass after notice, and the latter
with simple trespa'3 after notice.
They will be given a preliminary
hearing before Magistrate Richardson
at Chapin on November 2nd.
