In Lodge meeting this night the following tribute of respect was unanimously passed: Resolved, That while in bis inscrutable Providence it has pleased our Heavenly Father to call us to mourn the loss of our beloved Brother, Justus A. Stackhousts secretary of the fertilizer board at Clemson, that a nam- * ber of manafaotarer6 are sending oat fertilizers below the legal standard c which is stamped upon the sack and upon the tag. There are over twenty concerns which have violated the law, ^ > and it is probable that they will be 8 prosecuted ander the criminal code, which provides for $1,000 fine or one year's imprisonment. The law allows a fertilizer to fall * 3 per cent, below the standard stamp- f ed, this being done becanse of loss 1 ^ by shipping and exposure, but when ' t 3 per cent, is passed it is a violation i of the law. i jr? Some of the manufacturers, it is 1 alleged, send out fertilizers nearly * 15 per cent, below the standard, and - - ' ? :j < as a result tb6 farmers suner cohbiu- erably. There has been some little 1 violation of the law, but nothing like as many or as large as this year, c The statement and report by Mr. 1 ' Stackhouse caused much surprise. ? j Confessions of & Priest. , Bev. Washington, O^t. 2 ?The statement was made here today by one of the President's closest advisors that the panicky condition of Wall street last week was permitted by financiers for the purpose of prejudicing businoes men against R. osevelt's administration. The man who makes the statement is prominent in Wall street, and his. judgment of the conditions is reliable.
