f Resolutions of Respect.
At the regular meeting of the Red
Bank Lodge, No. 83, I. 0. 0. F,
held September 24th, the following
resolutions were adopted.
Whereas, the great Supreme Ruler
of the Universe has in His infinite
wisdom removed from among us one
of our worthy and esteemed fellow
laborerp, brother J. B. Oswalt and,
whereas, the long and intimate relation,
held with him in the faithful
discharge of his duties in his order
makes it eminently befitting that we
record our appreciation of him;
therefore, be it
Resolved, That the wisdom and
ability, which he haB exercised in the
aid^ of our. organization by service,
contribution, and counsel will be held
in grateful remembrance.
Resolved, That the sudden removal
of such a life from amongst our
midst leaves a vacancy and a shadow
that will be deeply realized by all
the members and friends of this
order and will prove a serious loss to
the community and the public.
Resolved, That with deep sympathy
with the bereaved relatives of
the deceased, we express our hope
that even so great a loss to us may j
be overruled for good by him who
doeth all things well.
Resolved, That a copy of these
resolutions be spread upon the records
of our order and a copy printed
in the Lexington Dispatch and
one forwarded to the bereaved family.

Caring for Her Quest.
There are so many visitors in town
that it is impossible to get their
names or the places where they are
stopping. Through a spirit of hospitality
our people are throwing the
doors of their private residences
opened to accommodate those who
cannot find board and lodgings in
the public houses. So, to one and
all, we extend a hearty welcome and
assure them that they will always
find the latch string on the outside
of our door.
You will hod a line of nice canned
goods, full cream cheese, at the
Bazaar.

Court Proceedings.
On last Wednesday the grand jury i
made its final presentment and was
discharged. See presentment on
page six. The following jurors were
drawn for next year: Emanuel J.
Kyzer, Wm. M. Addy, James K.
Swygert, John W. Coogler, W. B.
Bouknight, Joe M. Gunter.
Lawrence Robinson, colored, plead
guilty to the charge of obstructing
the Seaboard Air Line Railway, at
Dixianna, by changing the switch
light and connecting the side track
with the main line, just before the
aDnroach of the "Florida Fiver."
4"iT * - - The
sentence was ihree years to the
chain gang. Lawrence has been up
before and this is net his first sentence.
D. L. Epting, James Epting and
Julius Epting were indicted for obstructing
a neighborhood road, and
were represented by G. T. Graham,
G. B. Timmerman and E U. Shealy.
Efird & Dreher assisted the Solicitor. '
The trial was very lengthy, but resulted
in a verdict of acquittal.
The trial of Scipio Stratfoot for
the murder of ^Hden Stivender, followed
next. This murder occurred
at Dixianna about two years ago and
the defendant escaped, but was captured
in Florida this spring. The
parties are all colored. Solicitor
Thurmond left before this trial and
Asbill and Sharpe appeared for the
r?rnafirtnf.ion and Timmerman and
Martin for the defendant. The verdict
was guilty of murder with
recommendation to mercy and the
sentence was life imprisonment.
On Friday came up the trial of
Jerpme Harley for the murder of
Thomas Vernon Flake, near Woodford
on June 6th last. The trouble
grew out of a dispute over a land
line between the parties and both
carried guns to the held, the killing
occurring very nearly on the line of
their land. Asbill appeared for the
prosecution and Graham and Sharpe
for the defense. The jury found a
verdict of acquittal in a few minutes
after retiring.
The last jury trial for the first
week was William Casewell, a Georgian,
lately residing at Irene, S. C.,
for assault with intent to kill upon
T. Hayne Williams, a merchant
