Comptroller General Jones has called a meeting of the Board of Equalization to be held in Columbia on July 15. The board will attend especially to the equalization of the taxes on cotton oil mills, textile factories, fertilizer factories, etc. The board ought to have done this last year, but the legislature was memoralized so that the law should be changed in order that all taxes on all property could be put on the same basis, but that body did nothing about it, so the board will proceed to assess on the old plan?that is make an assessment for such industries, another for real estate and so on. Jtceai estate, however, is cot assessed this year that being done every four years. The last legislature appointed a commission to look into the tax laws of the State and make some suggestions to better them. The commission has met and is securing much data, but as yet have come to no conclusion.
