The Lexington Dispatch. Wednesday, June 24, 1903. i . ?~ Woman in Postal Frauds? Said to Have Been Go Between In Machen's Transactions. Washington, June IS?The Federal grand jury, which baa been investigating postal affairs, probably will bring in five indictments on Monday against persons involved. Although every effort is made to keep the public in ignorance of the a- i ?i steps iu ua ta&eu uuiu tuo woca 010 ready for presention by the grand jury, it is learned on unquestioned authority that the grand jury has voted to return indictments against August W. Macben, Miller B. Grcff, Samuel A. Groff, George E. Lorenz and Mrs. Lorenz, the two last being residents of Toledo, Ohio. The epecific charges, it i3 understood, will be conspiracy to defraud the government. A sensational features is the connection of Mrs. Lorenz1 name with the transactions, which led to the arrest cf Machen and the Groffs. At the time of the arrests stories were in circulation that there was a go between, but information at hand then was not conclusive enough to establish the identity of this particular party. Whether or not Mrs. Lorenz acted in this capacity is not known, but it has been suggested that the go-between was a woman. State of Ohio, City of Toledo, ) Lucas County j Frank J. Belgrade, June 16.?A telegram received here from Constantinople saye a revolution has broken out in Turkey and that tbe sultan has abdicated. London. June 19 ?The report cir calated at Belgrade of a revolution in Turkey and the sultan's abdication cannot be confirmed in diplamatic circles here. An official recently retamed from a visit to Constantinople and a number of other chief cities in Turkey says he doubts if the movement to overthrow the rule of the -saltan is so far advanced, though he believes such a step would not be long delayed. "Washington, June 19?The state department has received noeonfirmaof the reported revolt at Constantinople. Cuts, Bruises and Suras Quick lj Aeajksa. The physician says the Pontiff is wonderfuly well for a man of 94 years, and his presence at the consistory to be held &onday next will be the best answer to peasimists. Dr. Lapponi adds that the Pope is painfully impressed by the Belgrade tragedy. The Pope today received, in private audience, the Bight Rev. F. Z Book. i w er, bishop of Jaro, the Right Rev. Dennis J. Doughtery, bishop of Neuva Segovia, Philippine Islands. The Pontiff expressed himself of the opinion that their work in the Philippines in conjunction with that of Archbishop Guidi, the apostolie delegate there will be mo3t beneficial to the chuich in the islands and to the pacification of the archipelago. The Turk'^h censor is said to have forbidden the American Bible Society to print the Epistle to the Thessalon- j ians containing the geographical term Macedonia. He insists upon substi tufciDg "the vilayets of Salonica and Monastir." No doubt this could be more exact if the Bible is to be brought down to date, Macedonia was; it has been Turkish policy to wipe it out, as a recognizable political entity, and the revolutionary sentiment just now manifest in that region will Recount for the official sensitiveness. But there are other references to Macedonia in the New Testiment more significant than this, as where a man of M&cedonia appeared to the Apostle in the night, sayiog, "Come over into Macedoina and help us," This is an appeal which the Turkish censor should by all means suppress. ?Philadelphia Ledger. . Miller of St. Joseph's church has caused a sensation here by preaching against open-lace apparel, low neck dresses and lace shirt waists. He denounced this style of apparel, terming it upeek-a-boov dress and charging his flock not to indulge in it. The reverend father spoke scathingly of the present modes of feminine dresses, and especially censured the young ladies who wore light waists with an abundance of open woik. These garments, be said, were altogether too exposing, and allowed young men too fair a view cf pretty shoulders. The rebuke was so scatching that many young wpmeu who wore fashionable dressei were embarrassed during the services, and among them__i J ii.. -i Beivee, unucibeu tue priest. ^ South Carolina's Part. It is a matter of record that this State furnished to the armies of the Confederacy nearly 10,000 men more than the voting population cf the State in 1860. The census of the United Slates shows that at that time there w 3re in this State 54,046 men over the age of 21. The record of the war department of the Confederacy shows that that this State furnished 61.508 men for service Of that number 2-1,608 died in battle, in the hospitals and in prisons. His Last Hope Realized. From the Sentinel. Gebn, 3Iont. In the first opening of Oklahoma to settlers in 1S89, the editor of this paper was among the many seekers after fortune who made the big race one fine day in April. During his traveling about and afterwards his camping upon his claim, he encountered much bad water, which, together with the severe heat, gave him a very severe diarrhoea which it seem J ed almost impossible to check, and along in June the case became so bad he expected to die. One day one of his neighbors brought him one small bottle of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy as a last hope. A big dose was giv^n him while he was rolling about on the ground in great agony, and in a few minutes the dose was repeated. I The good effect of the medicine was soon noticed and within an hour the patient was taking his first sound sleep for a fortnight. That one little bottle worked a complete cure, and he cannot help but feel grateful. The season for bowel disorders being at hand suggests this item.
