Let TTs Have Water.
We want to ser our town authorities
remove the terracotta pipe from
the well in front of the jail and replace
the same with curbbing. This
well is as an important a one as any
in town and before the terracotta
was put in its water was the best in
town, and now it is hardly fit to
drink. This well is conveniently located
and when its waters were in
good condition was constantly used
by the citizens and the public gen
eraily.
Ice Cream Festival.
The Junior Order of United American
Mechanics will give an ice cream
festival at Irene, on Saturday evening,
June 27tb, commencing at 7:30 o'clock
everybody is cordially invited to be
present.

Free Barbecue.
The people of Leesville are making
liberal arrangement^ for the entertainment
of the old Veterans at the
reunion there on July 14th. "We publish
elswhere in this issue the programme
in full which will be used
on that occasion, and in addition to
the other arrangements already made
for the accommodation of the Veterans,
it has been decided by those
having the matter in hand to furnish
a free barbecue to the old soldiers on
that occasion. Every old Confederate
Soldier in the county is cordially welcomed
and they are assured a hearty
welcome.
Went On a Sad Mission.
Mrs. J. J. Fjx was called no a sad
Hussion to Sumter last week. She
was summoned to the bedside.of her
brother, Mr. M. F. Myers. News
has been received here that Mr.
Myers died yesterday. She web
accompanied by her son, Johnnie.
Mojnli^ht Sociable.
The Lexington Brass Band will
give a moonlight sociable in the
beautiful grove in front of the reei|
dence of Mrs. Godfrey Leapharfc,
| known as the Berley PIbcp, on July
j 9th next. Ice cream and refreshments
will be served by six young
ladies, the Band will discourse popular
airs during the evening and other
amusements will be provided for the
entertainment and amusement of the
guestp. Everybody 13 cordially invited
to come out and spend a pleasant
evening. The Band will be pleas
ed to greet all its friends and the
public generally on that occasion.
Come out, young meD, aod bring a
full pocketbook to treat your best
girl. The best of order will be maintained,
as a town polieeeman will be
on the grounds to see that it is.
Lexington Brass Band.
Court.
Judge Townsend did not reach court
this place until Saturday morning on
account of his train missing connection
with the Augusta train at Columbia
Friday afternoon. He opened
the court of equity Saturday and
heard several cases and then sojourned
the court the same day.
The contested matters consisted of
cases on appeal from Magistrate
court, Sallie A. Gibson vs. E. T.
Eauch snd L. W. Fuller as appellants.
Messrs. Boozer and Shealy attorneys.
Submitted.
David Hipp vs. Eli W. Bowers, et
al., appellants. - Efird & Dreher and
Boozer & Frick, affirmed.
J. G. Hiller vs. Town Council of
Cbapin. Shealy and Graham attorneys.
Beversed and sent back for
new trial.
Fourth of July Barbecues.
There will be foor first class barbecues
in this county on the Fourth
of July, all four of them are under
the management of expert, cuists
and it i3 only a matter of choice
among the lovers of barbecued meats
between location and convenience.

Protracted Meeting.
The Rev. W. E. Baare, pastor c*
the circuit, has commenced a series
cf religious meeting in the Methodist
church in this place. The meeting
commenced last Monday evening
with a sermon by the R-.v. Mr. Yarborough,
the well known youDg evangelist,
we do not know how long they
will continue. There will be two
services a day,?one in the afternoon
at 4 o'clock and the other at S o'clock
