Tfce Lexington Dispatch . Wednesday, June 24, 1903. A Queen Who Sells Butter. Queen Wilhelmina of Holland has gone iDto the dairy business and is now making money by selling milk and butter. Her first step in this direction was when she induced her husband, Prince Henry, to buy several cows, which were placed on the rich lands surrounding th9 castle of The cows orosnered exceeding 4 4 ? ly, and the queen was so well pleased with the success of the experiment that she instructed the managers of her estates to make a tour of the stock farms and purchase the be6t animals that could be obtained in Holland. Th,.: they did and sent the herd to the castle of Loo. A dairy was established in connection with the royal castle, and now butter and milk are sold in large quantities from the queen's establish ment. She herself devotes considerable time to directing and inspecting the work of the dairy, and it has become her most obsorbing hobby. Dr. Crum will return the visit at an early date. Ordinarily the Collector of the Port would be a personage at the functions being given in honor of the German naval officers, but it is not probable that Dr. Crum will be a feature of any of the festivities. Worst of All Experiences. Can anything be worse than to feel that every minute will be your last? Such was the experience of Mrs. S. H. Newson, Decatur, Ala. "For three years" she writes, "I endured insufferable pain from indigestion, stomach and bowel trouble. Death seemed inevitable when doctors and all remedies failed. At length I was induced to try Electric Bitters and the result was miraculous. I improved at once and now Tm completely recovered." Why Many Young Men Fail. It is the fault and the cause of the failure of so many bright, capable young m6n that, being put into a certain workday rut, they make no effort to climb or even crawl out of it; they do not seek the work that is not routine and go beyond the terms of the bond in search of additional labor in order to attract the approving notice of their employers. They do not go to their posts before nor remain at them after the fixed hour. They are content to do enough, and no more than enough, to earn their hire. The life of the average clerk is generally genteel, easy, cleanly; he need not soil his hands nor his clothes, and his ambition is satisfied with these pleas ant conditions. * 0 ? Will Never be Encwa. Heppner, Ore, June 17 ?The work of clearing the streets of great piles of wreckage, which were lodged in the town by Sunday's flood, was commenced in earnest today. Bodies are being recovered almost every hour and tonight the most accurate estimate of the number of dead is 200 The exact number of victims ^will probably never be known, as many have been waebed miles down tbe creek and covered by huge accumulations of drift and sand. Scores of men are searching tbe creek bottoms for bodies of relatives and friends who are missing, but the undertaking is a stupendous one, as bodies have been found more than thirty miles from here. Another Consolidation. New York.?Perhaps nothing more suitable could occur in the uniting of publications, which style of concentration has rapidly grown in popularity, than the bringing together of the Ledger Monthly, founded by Robert Bonner, in 1843, a publication devoted alike to the general field and to home matters. The Household, preeminently a home publication, established at Brattleboro, Yt., in 1S68, and the musical journal, Ev'ry Month, which has rapidly grown in favor sihce its first issue that appeared in 4S62. This uniting of diversified interests which, however, all centered in the home, naturally at once establishes The Housebold Ledger upon a high plane in the home field / Danger From Levse. Richmond, Va, June 16?It now appears that the Jefferson Davis i m - - * i i j I Monument Association, Desiues inviting Sculptor E. V. Valentine and | Architect W. C. Noland to submit a design for the memorial to the president of the Confederacy, have determined to limit the expenditures to $60,000, although' several thousand dollars will remain in the treasury after this outlay. Much secrecy is maintained in regard to the memorial plans, but it is pretty generally understood that the design will embody a collonade statue of Davis and several allegorical figures. Sentiment favors the corner of Twelfth and Broad streets as a site for the monument, but this has not vet been determined. Indeed much ? yet remains to be done. The design submitted must be passed upon at a meeting of the monument association to be held November 10 in Charleston. If it is then accepted it will in turn be submitted to the convention of the Daughters of the Confederacy in Charleston, November 11. No more money will be asked by the ladies, and what remains in the treasury after paying out $60,000 will be reserved for incidental expenses. A Serious Mistake. E C. The average man saves money one place so as to be p.ble to put it where he is squandering it somewhere el*e. It takes a woman to convince herself that what is a scandal for some other women to do is only indiscretion when she does it. A bore gets mighty interesting all of a sudden when he begins to talk to you about yourself. A woman can despise a man for his weekness, and yet love him for the suffering they bring him. Generally a woman is interested in a man when she pretends, if he is around, to be interested in some other man. Do You Enjoy What You Eat? If you don't your food does not do you much good.
