What "Weekly Tapers Do.
Spartanburg Herald.
''Believing the weekly newspapers I
have vast opportunities for uplifting
their readers morally and industrially
and regretting that so many
fail to accept the^responsibility of taking
the initative in local matters we
are watching with much interest the
K
active fight being made by the Rock
Hill Journal for better roads in York
county. Already the business men of
every town have been aroused to the
workingjpoiot and there is every indication
that York will determine on a

system waiting pay for them will not
be adopted."?The State.

The weekly newspaper goes to the
home of humble cottager who does
not see the great dailies with their
picture pages and magazine supplements.
It comes every week a3 a
personal letter, for the reader knows
the editor and he knows that what
the weekly paper says is so, or at
least the honest opinion of the editor.
We, too, have been impressed with
the great impetus given to road building
recently and we attribute a large
part of it to the labors of the weekly
newspapers in behaf of good roads.

Eis Last Hope Realized.
From the Sentinel. Gebo, Mont.
In the first opening of Oklahoma
to settlers in 18S0, the editor of this
paper was among the many seekers
after fortune who made the. big race
one fine day in April. During his
traveling about and afterwards his
camping upon his claim, he encountered
much bad water, which, together
with the severe heatT gave him a
very severe diarrhoea which it seemed
almost impossible to cheek, and
along in June the case became so
bad he expected to die. One day one
of his neighbors brought him one
email bottle of Chamberlain's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy as a
last hope. A big dose was given
him while he was rolling about on
the ground in great agony, and in a
few minutes the dose was repeated.
The good effect of the medicine was
scon noticed and within an hour the
patient was taking hi3 first sound
sleep for a fortnight. That one little
bottle worked a complete cure,
and he cannot help but feel grateful,

A Charleston Muddle.
Governor Keyward and Attorney
Geaeral Ganter Lave been in consultation
with the dispensary board
relative to matters in Charleston.
Tgs whole business is much muddled
and mixed np with local politics and
it is hard for anybody else to get st
the bottom of the whole of it. The
fact is that L Arthur O'Neilh once
chairman of the board, resigned or
thought he did and intended t >, for
he sent his resignation to the governor,
who happened to be the wrong
man to send it to. Now he says he
hasn't resigned and the bo*rd says
he has and the couLty delegation
seems to be more or less divided and
there i~ so much politics all through
it that it is of no interest probably
outside of Charleston. However,
some 3eriou3 charges have been made
against the beer dispensers in Charleston
and that matter was to be taken
up in the consultation.
