Zlon&ik Flirts With Cupid.
To the Editor of the Dispatch.
I meant no offense to Cupid whatever
when I said last week, that
there was nothing doing along his
line and, strictly speaking, it was not
true, because at that sametime Mr.
Horace Taylor and Mies Ida Smith
were bowing at his feet. Now what
is done cannot be undone unless they
move to Georgia; which I am pereeaded
they will never do. "We wish
Horace and his pretty bride a long
and happy life.
The boys of Lewiedale have organized
themselves into a brass band.
Now, if they don't happen to lose the
month piece to the big drum we may
expect success from them. Mr. M.

they can't get away from your
charms.
Klondike is keeping bachelor's
camp now, and has learned by
sweet (?) experience the truth of that
grand old scripture text: "it is not
good for men to live alone."
Any man who is so mean and
stingy that he won't take his church
paper and yet spends $8 or $10 a
year for whisky' ought to move to
Africa and sleep with a wet dog.
Mr. J. E Dunbar, of the Black
creek section, holds the laurels in to
bacco culture so far this year.
Cotton and corn is small for the
time of year.
The pestiferious house fly has put
in his appearance, and now every
cow will need her own tail.
Lost?between here and yesterday
?a golden opportunity. I am sure
no one will And it.
, Now for the next four weeks the
sweet pleasure will be ours of "seeing
the sweet gril graduate broach
up her hair and look her best.

Brookland News
To the Editor of the Dispatch: The
members of Brookland Council
J. 0. U. A. M., No. 35, gave a delightful
ice creame festival Saturday
night. The location was an ideal
one and the grounds were beautifully
ligh'ed with Japenese lanterns. The
occasion was a grand success, the
order realizing a sum of fifty dollars.
Sunday being the fixed date for the
annual sermon of this order, the
members of Brockland and Olymphia
Councils unite 1 and marcbed to the
Methodist church ,where by special
Invitation the Rev. Dr. W. W. Daniel,
president of the Columbia Female
College, delivered a most eloquent
sermon to them. The Council here
boast of being the banner council of
the State, the membership being
near the two hundred mark.
The lady friends of the Masons
will give an entertainment next
Thursday night on the ground floor
of the Masonic Hall for the benefit
of this ancient fraternity. It is said
that the program is an excellent one
and we beepeak in advance that the
eveDt will be largely and liberally
patronized.

here during the reunion.

The Magistrate is quite busy these I
days having his constable looking up
delinquent tax payers. Brookland

year and many a man is now wearing

carelessness in trying to dodge his
taxes. D.
Greatly Alarmed
By a Persistent Cough, but Permanently
Cured by Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy.
Mr. H. P. Burbage, a student at
law, in Greenville, S. C, had been
troubled for four or five years with a
continuous cough which he says, I
i i 3 ; i _ |
"greatly aiarmeu me, causing me iu
fear that I was in the first stage of
consumption." Mr. Burbage, having
seen Chamberlain's Cough Remedy
advertised, concluded to try it. Now
read what he says of it: "I soon
felt a remarkable change and after
using two bottles of the twenty-five
cent size, was permanently cured."

Perpetual Motion Idea.
The Washington Evening Star says:
The Commissioner of Patentp, Mr.
Frederick I AlleD, has stated poei- *
lively that the patent office will not, |
under any conditions, issue patents
on so called "perpetual motion" ma- ^
chines and that no patents for 6uch
machines have been issued by the
past forty years. This etatement of
the Commission was made in response
to an inquiry of a reporter of the
Star regarding the alleged issue of
a patent for a perpetual motion ma- ^
chine to a man in South Carolina.
This ma!? chimed to have receded a 1
a patent for his machine, and long j
articles praising him and the machine
have appeared in several Southern *
papers. It was a clipping from one .
of these papers, which contained,
among other things, an alleged statement
of a patent office official that
such a patent had been issued.

An editor of a North Carolina
paper recently stated that he had
been kissed by one of the most beau- ,
tiful married women in town. He
promised to tell her name in tke first
issue of his paper the next month.
In two weeks the circulation of his
newspaper doubled. But when he
gave the name of his wife he had to

"Bless This Frugal Meal."
"How do you like the new minister'?"
inquired one of the leading
members of a suburban flock of the
deacon's wife.
"I don't like him at all," was the
reply. "Of course," I invited him to
dine with us when be was here on
trial, and naturally enough I apologized
in advance for the dinner, but
I leave it to you if that afforded him
ground to insult me."
"Insult you? Certainly not How
did he do that?"
1 Oh, when it came time to say
graco ne asked the Lord to bless the
'frugal meal,' and really, between us,
I must admit that I had made most
elaborate preparations."
A Little Early Riser
Now and then, at bedtime will
cure constipation, biliousness and
liver troubles. DeWitt's Little
Early Risers are the famous little
pills that cure by arousing the secretions,
moving the bowels gently, yet
effectually, and giving such tone and
strength to the glands of the stomach
and liver that the cause of the
trouble is removed entirely, and if
their use is continued for a few days,
there will be no return of the complaint.
