To the Editor of the Dispatch:
We are proud to say our community
is enjoying good health as usual,
and farmers are pushing their work.
Wheat is the finest I ever saw and
a
if we have no late frost we will have
a good harvest, and the fruit crop
will be heavy. But we are waiting till
after the Easter snap.
Mr. W. L. Miller, Sr., has been
very sick for some time but is on the
mend.
Mr. Glover Able lost a fine ox last
week.
Uncle George Clark is moving
things on Black Creek. We hear the
hum of the old saw and can almost
hear the jingle of the dollars. We
are glad to have such men as Uncle
George with us.
Some of the road overseers have
warned out the road hands and
walked over their roads, but left
little sigus of work on the road.
One of our fresh married fellows
while passing an old place one night
not long since, thought he saw a
woman and then suddenly she disappeared.
This did not suit him, so
he stepped off in such haste for home,
the distance of about three miles, until
he passed the next house unnoticed.
A saucer in his dinner
bucket was found to be devided in
small peaces. It was thought by
some who heard the rattling noise
ot the tin bucket, that a new fashion
cew bell had been introduced in the
settlement. Another young fellow,
pulling boxes, near the same place,
heard the strange noise, he too left
in such haste it is said, that the tacks
in his shoes were thrown out, so
quick were the motion of his feet.
They are still convinced they heard
and saw "spooks."
We think that some of the work
I
that president Teddy is doing is a
scandal to his party.
Somo of our friends will soon be
brought to the bar of justice to reap
their reward, for shooting dogs.
Look out, some of you who propose
to help make laws, you may want to
be elected again. It is not the high
schools that needs help but our common
schools. [We must say for

Well, Mr. Editor, I think the fish
have about forgotten you in this time,
so we say ccme down and bring some
of our friends from the Fork, so they
may see where the Baptist go to administer
that ordinance.
With best wishes to the Dispatch

I have been reporting a good small
grain crops in this section, but foi
the last few days it is going to de
struction as fast as time. It is infested
with insects, something like
flies ana bugs. Mr. J. .berry, up
until a few days back, had about foui
acres of the finest in the settlement
but today at best, it would not make
t6n bushels, and this ground may be
planted in com and peas. Mr. L L

condition, and nearly this whole settlement
is complaining of the wheal
which had looked fine until recently
Mr. Willie Rish had the misfor

, Hon. A. 0 Latimer, U. S. Senate,
Washington, D. C.
Sir: Iu view of the great interest
which you have taken in the work of
the Bureau of Soils, and your efforts
to have this work extended to South
Carolina, I take great pleasure in informing
you that, as a result of the
soil survey of last year, at which time
, we discovered a soil in South Carolina
, that we think adapted to the Cuba
filler tobacco, we have under our increased
appropriation this year been
i able to place a tobacco man in this
state to follow up this soil survey work

. planting of three acres will be made
, on the farm of Mr. J. J. Lawton of
[ that place. This tobacco will be cul,
tivated and handled entirely by our
own men under the supervision of one
, of our own experts- We hope to be
, able to demonstrate the practicability
, of producing a high grade filler leaf
, very similar and equally as desirable
as that which is now being imported.
For the present the investigations
will be of an experimental character
to teBt the suitability of the soil and
other conditions, to determine as to
the best methods to be used and for
the purpose of obtaining all information
necessary for our guidence. If
the experiments are successful, it is
our present intentions to keep the to
bacco party in South Carolina for another
season at least in order to be
able to instruct the planters as to the
proper methods. Very respectfully,
Milton Whitney, Chief of Bureau.
Robbed The Grave.
A startling incident is narrated by
John Oliver of Philadelphia, as follows:
"I was in an awful condition.
My skin was almost yellow, eyes
sunken, tongue coated, pain continually
in back and sides, no appetite,
growing weaker day by day. Three
' physicians had given me up. Then
I was advised to use Electric Bitters;
to my great joy, the first bottle made
a decided improvement. I continued
their use for three weeks, and am
now a well man. I know they robbed
the grave of another victim."
No one should fail to try them. Only
50 cents., guaranteed, by The Kaufmann
