The United States Supreme Court has affirmed the opinion of the Supreme court of South Carolina in the case of John Brownfieid vs. State of South Carolina Brownfieid is the negro barber who murdered Mr. Sourrp in Georgetown in 1899 and was the cause of the riot which occurred at that time. Several military companies were sent there by the State at the time. Brownfieid was convicted of murder, but through the efforts of a colored lawyer the case was carried to the supreme court of the State and then to the United States supreme coui.. His life has been spared for three years, but it is now up to Sheriff doe McKitchen, of George town, to adjust the noose. Congress Called. Though it is now defunct, there is some $16,000 to its credit in a Co umbi* bank. It has caused much trouble among the Alliancemen and the last scheme was to divide it among the Alliance^ originally taking stock in the exchange. This was impossible because none of them now exist.
