Bawl last Thursday, the Cemetery and Church Ground Association was organized by the election of the following officers: Mrs. James E. Hendrix, President; Mrs. Thomas P. Meetze, VicePresident; Miss Alice V. Meetze, Treasurer; Miss Mary C. Wingard, Secretary. The object of the Association is to take charge of and keep in repair the grounds of the cemetery and church yard. v. Hattie Gates, colored, is supposed to have been fonlly and brutally murdered by some unknown person at her home, on the Whitman place, near Mr. Bass Lybrand, last Thursday night. The details of the murder are very meagre and unsatisfactory. The girl was found Friday morning stiff dead with a bullet hole in her body and her head terribly mangled by blows dealt with a lightwood knot. Charley Hall, a negro fugative from justice, was arrested Saturday morning at the quarry at Cayce, by Officer Strickland, of the Columbia detective force.
