Folmer is now wearing the largest and sweetest smile of any of our married men of this section. It is a girl. Mr. D. I. Epting has been hauling cotton seed meal from Hilton. Guess he intends to raise a large crop of cotton next summer. On account of the heavy rain that fell last Saturday the river has been doing a great deal of damage to some of our farmers. By some means it managed to break the flat chain at Long's Old Ferry and carried the flat away. It had been in the river ?V?nf fiurt Toara one? war in UUIJ OVUUV unw jvwitu ? .. good condition. Last Wednesday night we beard the report from the guns that were need by some of our boys who serenaded Mr. Andrew Amick, Jr. That's right boys let, 'em flicker. Last Monday our teacher of the ' old Pine Ridge Academy, Mr. S. S. Lindler, failed to cross the river and Mr. Samuel Wessinger took his place. Through mistake it was reported last week that Mr. Jabis Amick was shot, bat he was not. The man that was shot was Mr. Jabis Frick. The young men of Pine Ridge Academy had a very interesting de bate recently and was highly praised by uncle Daniel Shealy. i The charming young ladies of .our school followed with an intresting debate on the question "That Intemperance is the greatest evil of our country." Mr. J. J. Ballentine has lately purchased a young horse from Mr. Jake Harman, and Mr. S. C. Fulmer also has a new horse for his boy to drive. Prof. S. S. Lindler, our teacher, spent last night with Mr. Joseph Bauch and family. The school at Pine Bidge will soon be out for this winter, and it will then be gee and haw for our boys. Feb. 20. Swab. Having happened in a email Virginia town in the winter of 1902, it is a story very much of the present. Up to a short time age Mrs. John E. Half Way school, UDder the management of Miss Hattje Kaigler, is flourishing. The children of Half Way bad a "Spelling Bee?' recently, and Master Blannie Roof's side wa3 successful against Miss Ellen Roof. Both sides spelled well. I think the wedding bells will peal forth bocd, as th9 cage is nearing completion. Some bird will soon be caged. We are glad to see Mr. Manning Hook out again. Mrs. Lou Hook, who has been ill, is able to be out again. Mrs. J. A. Kaigler and Mies Carrie Knight, of Bakersville, visited Mr. and Mrs. Tom Koof. Wishing the Dispacth much success, I am a Student. Wakeful Children. For a long time the two-year-old child of Mr. P. L. McPhersoD, 40 N. Tenth St., Harrisburg, Pa., would sleep but two or three hours in' the early part; of the night, which made it very hard for her parents. Her mother concluded that the child had stomach trouble, and gave her half of one of Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets, which quieted her Btomach and she slept the whole night through. Amick, Grines county, Texas, we are informed that: "It has been raining in Texas for some time. Farmers have not been able to do much towards farming. "W? had a big sleet and snow on the JLbtn of February and it has been raining every day since. Farmers will b6 late planting their corn and cotton. People here plant cotton earlier than people do in South Carolina. For late years people here have to plant unusually early on account of boll weevils striking it about July and stinging the little bolls and squares causing them to fall off." The Macedonian Sew. St. Petersburg, February 25 ?A Eussian paper publishes the Macedonian reform programme in an official note, adding: "Kussia will hot sacrifice a single man contrary to the wisest councils, if a violent attempt should be made to modify the statu quo of the Balkans. Diplomats do not believe there is daDger of anything more than a local disturbance and that is nearly over. The Sultan by accepting meaningless reforms is again postponing the inevitable." More Riots. Disturbances of strikers are not nearly as grave as in individual disorder of the system. Overwork, loss of sleep, nervous tension will be followed by utter collapse, unless a reliable remedy is immediately employed. Paducab, Ky., February 25.?A get-rich-quick, all centered in one man, has developed in Paducah and the operator is in custody. Dr. A. Perkins was arrested about 11 o'clock this morning on complaints filed by his wife, three young women and two young men, all of whom have been connected with him, of obtaining money by false pretensee. This afternoon two warrants were issued against him, one for alleged disorderly conduct and another for alleged breach of the peace. He will also be charged with a more serious offense.
