With bright anticipation of a j >yous and happy occasion the scholars, teachers and officers of Hebron Methodist Sunday school and its friends, gathered at the chnrch building on Christmas afternoon to participate in the time honored festiviies attending Christmas tree exercises. The assembled congregation were not disappointed in their anticipations j for it has never fallen to the lot of this reporer to attend a more erjiy able leathering of a similar nature Tb* tree was a majestic cedar whose b >ogbs bended low with their burden ef beautiful and useful, as well as ornamental gifts, and was handsomely trimmed with ornaments. Tfcere were two excellent addresses. One by the pa?tor, Rev. W. E Barre, and the other by the popular Superintendent, J. W. Hcndrix, both of which directed the minds of the hearers into obannels of holy thoughts end were very instructive and interesting. The singing was the best that we have ever heard on a similar occasion, the voices being sweet and melodious and the tunes harmonized with the joyousnees of the occasion when tb? angels of mercy proclaimed to the shepherds on Jada's rugged bills in anthems of praise and songs of adora-C~ tion, "Peace on earth, good will toward" men for today there is born in She city of David, the saviour of the world. Everybody was delighted with the exercises and pleased with the gifts and returned to their respective homes feeling that it was good for them to have been there. We learn that the Christmas tree ?i St. David's was well attended; the tree loaded with suitable gifts for joang and old; the exercises appropriate and time pleasantly spent. / _ ? ? :? Homicide ia Swansea. A tragedy occurred at {Swansea on Qiristmas Eve that is deplored by ail. It appears that Mr. K W. McDaniel, who runs a merchandise business in that town, and Mr. J Lee Neese, the town Marshall, became involved in a difficulty during which McDaniel shot Neese, the ball catering the right eye and passing oat at the back of the head, from the effects of which wound Neese died after lingering sometime. The origin of the difficulty, which ended in the death of one of the principals and placing the other behind the bars to answer to the charge of murder, is about as follow*: In the evening of the fatal day, McDaniel was firing a gun in front of his store. Some three or four shots had been fired when Neese appeared and attempted to arrest McDaniel. MoDaniel contended that he had done nothing for which to be arrested, as be was only shooting blank cartridges. Bystanders inter f erred and separated the belligerents. Here there is a conflict in the version of the eye witnesses of the sad affair and as the case is to undergo a legal investigation, farther oomment of the affair would be improper and oniirely oat of place. Neese was ebot with bis own pistol. McDaniel came to town Friday and surrendered to Sheriff Caugh ran and is now in jail. Magistrate Merchant, of Brcokland, went to Swansea and held an inquest. The verdict of the jury being as follows: "That we, the jarorB selected to ei q lire into the cau*e of the death of J Lee Neese, fiud that the said J Lee Nee*e, came to his death from a wound inflicted by a pistol in the hand of R. W. McDaniel, on the night of December 24thf 1902 " Mr. McDaniel was originally from Barnwell county and is a son-in-law of Col. L. W. Youmans, but has been residing in Swansea for some time. He was once section master of the F C. and P. railroad, but at the time of the tragedy wae engaged in -m.-r _ merchandising, iseese was a uuuro of Lexington county. Messrs. Ooe of the most pleasing and beau tiful incidents which happened during the Christmas festivities was the prettv church wedding which united in tbf holy bonds of wedlock Miss Hattie Virginia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli L. Corley, and Mr. Walter, son of Mr G M. Caughman, which took place in St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran church on December 25th, ... . lyua, at nan past seven o ciuc*.. Tbe church was elaborately and tastefully decorated by the loving friends of the bride elect and presented a picture of bewildering splendor and happily blended the whole scene iDto a harmony of bright colors that r*fleeted a radience in perfect accord with tbe happiness of the occasion. The building was crowded with the friends of tbe contracting parties who had assembled to wit i ness tbe tieing of tbe Gordon knot | which would link two loving hearts to- i get her for life. The bridal couple were preceded by two charming flower girls, Miss Elenor Corley and Miss Ernestine Graicben, who scattered the pathway with bright flowers to tbe strains of tbe wedding march, and tbe couple slowly wended their way to the chancel where they were met by the Rev. J. G Graicben, and were made man and wife according to the ceremony of tbe Lutheran church. The wed ding ma'ch was rendered by Miss 1'A.ns Meetze aDd tke organ pealed forth its low, eweet notes continuously from tbe time tbe couple en tered tbe church until the congregation went out. An elegant dinner was served at the home of tbe groom on Friday where beauty sat as queen of the hour and happiness presided at the banquet table. To the ?ditor of tbe Dispatch: Quite a pretty wedding took place last Monday, the 22d instant at the residence of Mr. W. L K Johnson. His daughter, Mies Lizzie, one of Swansea's fairest flowers, was married to Mr. W. C. The bride looked altogether lovely, attired in a becoming suit of tan and white, holding a beautiful bouquet of hyacinths. The groom is one of the Seaboard Air Line's best locomotive engineers, and a gentleman of fine character and standing. Only a few friends and relatives were present, among them were the groom's sister, Mrs Farmer, and her daughter from Yuler, Fla. After a sumptuous spread of all that { is nice and palatable, the happy pair were escorted to the train and amid j showers of riee and best wishes for ; the future, they departed for the "Land of Flowers" where they will spend the holidays.
