Tne Lexington Dispatch Wednesday, November 19,1902. Klondike's Letter. To tbe Editor of the Dispatch: Chief Rolling Bear has been holding forth in Lewiedale now for three nights, and by the way the small bov laughs, he must be a success. Our school is growing, progressing and prospering under tbe able management of Prof. Derrick. Mr. Maxie Crout, of the Pond Branch section, entered Monday. The Wateree school opened up Monday with Prof. H. V. Rish as principal. Miss Mary Ida Hart is teaching the Liberty Hill school and Miss Ethel Koon the Boiling Springs school. The Pond Branch academy has not opened up yet. Mr. George and Bolton Clark have bought the new mill tract of land and will turpentine the timber. The people are coming our way and soon the bells of progress will be jingling all over these sand hills We wish all friends a home and all foes a grave. A few weeks ago somebody with a mind and appetite for chickens made a raid on Uncle George Wood's fowl house and car &xed off three or four hue hens and I don't think they were black either, Rev. C. B. Avery has been elected ' to a large school in North Carolina, aud has left for that place. We wish for him nothing but success. Mr. *^Lem Hall, with bis pretty bride, was in town Saturday. The Summit school seems to be rushing the "Growler," this year. Leesville is in front ranks of pro gress and seems willing to accommo date both the living and the dead. y I noticed also, in "Our News Letter" that one of the college faculty had directed a cow's eye. C.-cnfc fell oft the wagon ?nd broke his arm.Mr. Azariah Taylor has purchased a fine organ and now' the mnsio sweetly swells. The way Uncle Jake Williams is mashing the sngar cane seems to indicate that the people in the "Sand Dam" section will have something to sop. Messrs. Lonnie and Ollie Kyzer are on a visit to the Sand Hills. They brought their dogs with them and the way they are killing up the Black Greek coons is a, pity. The first morning they went out, they caught 61?59 and at this writing they are on another chase. In next weeks paper I'll give you the number caught and killed and chased. Klondike. There was nothing new to distinguish it from similar carnivals, (or what-nots) held in other towns in the State during the present month.
