Mr. Olin Smith, of Lawiedale, has
taken op his studies at the Institute.
Mr. Smith boards with Mr. J. M.
Craps.
Mr, Van Harman, son of Mr. Frank
1 Harman, is now pursuing his studies
at the Institute.
Although there are already about
40 boarding students at the Institute
still there is room for 25 more.
Mr. Carl Boof, who won the
Citadel scholarship, graduated from
the Institute in 1901, having been
under the immediate instruction of
the present principal for four years.

Death.

Mrs. Hnldah C. Barre, who has
been a resident of this town for some
years, died at her home in this place
last Friday after a lingering illness.
The disease which terminated fatally
was consumption. She was a native
of Newberry county, her maiden
name being Goree, and was the
widow of the late W. A. Barre, of
Newberry. She was about 56 years
of age. Doringher sojourn among
us she made mauy warm personal
friends by her gentleness of spirit
and nneomplaining patience and
complete Christian resignation with
which she bore her sufferings and
calmly awaited the approach of the
end. Of her immediate family, her
daughter, Mrs. Alice Timmons, and
grand-daughter survives her, who
together with other relatives tnrougnout
the county, have the sympathy
of the community. . Her remains
were taken to Kinard, in Newberry
county, for interment, where they
now sleep.
Const Line's Xilfego.
When the Coast Line secures control
of the Louisville and Nashville
it will altogether have 9,588 miles of
road, the greatest mileage of any
road in the South. The Coast Line
system previously contained 4,162
miles and the Louisville 4,911. Bettdee
these the Coast Line will control
the Georgia and the West Point
and Atlanta, their total mileage being
528.
