Midway Items. To the Editor of the Dispatch: The health of the community is not so very good at this writing. Fodder pulling is about over and the farmers are busy kneeling for their cotton. We are sorry to say Mrs. Henrietta Efird is confined to her bed with typhoid fever. At last reports she was slightly improving. Some of our young people enjoyed a pleasant day at Mr. Henry Smith's last week. Misses Agnes Bawl and Lillie Hendrix were the guest of Miss Wingard Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Betty Heigman is very sick. Trust to 8(3e her out again soon. Mr. D. F. Efird has presented himself to a new plaining machine, which is very accommodating. Our young people will enjoy their picnic Thursday, the 25th day of August. Mr. Jacob Meetze will shortly occupy his new dwelling. Miss Clara Conner spent a pleasant visit with her aunt, Mrs. Harris Shull, last week. Mr. Jacob Wingard has bought a new gin and will shortly be ready for ginning cotton. Mr. J. A. Q. The present unprecedentedly low average of condition which is two-tenths of a point lower than the condition September 1, 1896, is due mainly to the reports from Texas and Alabama, in which States the prevailing conditions are nothing less than disastrous. The average for Texas is three points lower than at the corresponding date in 1895 and 1901, and is the lowest ever reported for that State. The averages of conditions in the different States are as follower Virginia 80, North Carolina 80, South Carolina 74, Georgia 68, Florida 75, Alabama 54, Missiesippi 68, Louis iana 70, Texas 53, Arkanasas 75, Tennessee 82, Missouri 73, Oklahoma 86, Iodian Territory 68.
