Fire at Leesville.
Special to the Columbia State.
A serious conflagration occurred in
Leesville last night. Every effort to
check the course of the devouring
flames was of no avail and the fire
burned iteelf out. A special message
to The State by long distance telephone
at a late hour last night gave
the particulars:

originated in the town hall and from

dwelling. All of these buildings, together
with a barber shop, were entirely
destroyed. Dr. E. J. Etheridge,
who occupied a suite of offices ovei
the store building of Mr. Austin,
managed to save most of his dental
instruments, his loss being only $150.
Loss on town hall about $700, partly
insured. Loss on barber shop,
owned by Matthews <fc Bouknight,
$300. Loss on Mr. Austin's warehouse
$200, no insurance. Loss on
Mr. Austin's storehouse and dwelling
about $125; insurance on buildings
$1,500, none on stock.

Mrs. Bawls.
Mrs. Cedelle Fallaw is visiting
relatives and friends in the Wagener
section.
Mrs. John Gantt had the misfortune
to lose his horse a few days ago.
Mr. O. C Gantt was the fortunate
man to catch a large wildcat which
has been devouring the chickens on
Blackcreek.
Mr. Babe Gantt is making some

Mr. Davis Gantt is preparing to

I Echoes from Spring Branch.
* To the Editor of the Dispatch:
Cotton nickinsr is the most work of
the day. The pea crop of our section
is very fine, and if the showers
| continue on, I think there will be a
good crop of peas gathered this fall.
A protracted meeting will begin
at th Cross Road the fifth Sunday,
in August. We learn that Rev.
Yarborough will conduct these services.
He is a fine young man and
should attend and hear him.
The meeting which was to have !
started at Convent church on the
2nd of this month, was postponed
on account of the pastor's illness.
The baptizing was moved on the
eecond Sunday from the church at
Florence to Mr. Noah Lucas' por d
on account of the scarcity of water.
Miss Sue Corley's school at Smith
Branch has come to a close for the
