nice young lady and a good teacher.

conducted by the Bev. James Sanford
and others.
There is one happy man in our
community and it is Mr. W. E. Bawl
?its a boy.
If this escapes the waste basket

Obituary. *
Daisy, daughter of James A. and
Ellen F. Calk, was born August 31st,
1875, and died August 4th, 1902,
aged 26 years, 11 months and 3 days.
In infancy she was given to the I
Lord in holy baptism, and at an early
age she was confirmed as a member
of St Peter's Evangelical Lutheran

her eternal reward. She was an
obedient child, the pride of all the
family.
While we realize that Daisy is dead,
yet we have that glorious hope tbat
- she lives again and tbat she has that
eternal inheritance that none can take

away.
She leaves a kind father and mother,
3 brothers, 2 sisters and a host of
relatives and friends to mourn her
departure.
"Dearest sister thou has left as
Here thy loss we deeply feel,
Bat 'tis God that has bereft as.
He can all oar sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee.
When the day of lite has fled,
When in heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tear ii shed."
Her remains were laid to rest in
the cemetery at St. Peter's Evangelical
Lutheran church in the presence

How to Heap Hogs Fat.
A good many farmers without any
corn have brought their hogs through
the summer on sorghum, slops, etc.
Now they can carry them right on
to fattening without the use of much
corn. Let them plant turnips, and
\ ?.
in Buch an abundance as to have
enough to fatten all their hogs. If
the ground is well prepared and there
comes anything like favorable seasons,
an acre in turnips should produce
not less than 100 bushels,every
bushel of whicb, we think, at least
should be equivalent to a peck of corn
for feeding to hogs. This being the
case the value of the turnips would
be at least 25 bushels of corn, which
at present valuation of that foreign
article would be more than $20. The
crop does not require so much culti

quick ploughings being about sufficient.
At the last ploughing two
rows of grain can be drilled between
each row, thus making it possible to
have a good grain crop well on the
way before the the turnips are gathered.
By all odds try at least half
an acre in turnips?and may you be
well paid for the experiment.

Howard on the 2d of this month
was attended by a large crowd,
among whom was John Bell Towill,
who made a very interesting address.
We are in need of rain in this part
of the world.
Rev. Evans Hall, of this section,
has as fine crops as we have Been in
this section.

His Capacity Was Limited.
A man who had just returned to
Memphis after an absence of six
months in Oklahoma, was asked by
a friend bow he liked the country,
says the Memphis Scimitar.
"It's the worst country that ever

somewhere else and take it out with
you?"
"Because I can't take enough at
one time," was the rejoinder.
A Young Lady's Life Saved,

house was called to the door and
found a man there, with whom she
held the following conversation:
"Madam, I have called for the suit
of clothes to be pressed and brushed."

"Your husband's Sunday suit. He
called at the shop going down this
morning."
"And he said to let you have itl"
"Yes, ma'am."
. "Did he appear in good health and
spirits?"
"Why, certainly."
"And look and act naturally?"
