Arrangements have been mad3 for having the vestibule train going both * - ? i? ? i.1. - ways stoppea mere lor me accommodation of visitors. Burned Out. We regret to learn that the dwel'ing, kitchen and smoke house cf Mr. J. E HaltiwaDger at Selma, in the Dutch Fork, was destroyed by fire on the night of the 4th. It was evidently the work of an incendiary as straw was taken from the lot, placed at the south east corner of the smoke house and ignited. The blaze from the burning mass awoke the family who barely had time to save a few household effects and themselves. We deeply sympathize with Mr. Haltiwanger in his heavy misfortune. He is a quiet, hard working and industrious man and the devilish act must have sprang from a depraved nature, as it was not known that Mr. Haltiwanger had an enemy in the world who would do him such an injury. ? ? Important Enterprise. mi ti _ r p_ t-> t i XD0 xvooi oc jDarre juumoer company have gone to work in building houses for the reception of their planing plant. The location selected is on the railroad just below the depot and in the rear of the section mas ter's house. The main building is to be a one story frame structure 64x80 with a boiler room 30x54, several small houses of the workmen and commodious barns and stables for the stock is to go up as fast as it is possible to build them. The line of business to be followed will be general planing kiln, drying and dressing all kinds of lumber from mouldings up to factory timber. The machinery will be of the latest improved patterns much of which is now on band ready to be placed in position and when it is in running order it will be one of the finest planing plants in the state and will be able to.turn out a large amount of work. Thus another important enterprise will be launched in Lexington under favorable conditions. Election of Teachers. At a recent meeting of the Board of Trustees the following teachers were elected to teach in the Palmetto Collegiate Institute for the ensuing year: Prof. O. D. Seay, Prof. James H. Hope and Miss Mary Wingard. The faculty is an unsually strong one, as all have had college training. Prof. Hope was educated at New berry college and has experience in the school room of seven or eight years. He is a young man of affiable manners who makes friends wherever he goes. Hs together with i.i i,_ IJUW HCuuiupiiDLieu jruuug wuujaij ut> married Dot long since, will Boon move to Lexington, and will be quite an addition to our society. Miss Mary Wingard, who has been given charge of the primary department is a graduate of Walhalla Fe| male college, and has a number of | years experience in teaching. Miss ! Wingard has taught many good I schools, the last being at Red Rank, ! which one she has taught most suc| cessfully for several years. She comes highly reccommended and will doubtless prove a most worthy addition to the Institute faculty. Masonic. Regular communication of St. Clair Lodge No. 154, A. F. Hail and Wind. We learn from our correspondents that a severe hail and wind storm visited the Fork section of the county on the 7th inst. In the Selma section crops are literally ruined. A correspondent describes the disolation wrought by the storm as follows: Cotton is nothing but stems; corn is torn down and beat to pieces; fences prostrated; trees uprooted. Some fields look like they had not been planted. Up to the 7th the crop prospects were very bright, but LUU.?y (JUL UU}JCn 1UL an auuuuauu yield are blasted. Wofford College, SPARTANBURG, S. C. EL.
