The County Convention.
I The Democratic party of LexingI
ton county assembled in convention
I in the court house, in this place, last
; Monday. Twenty-seven of the 29
i clubs in the county were represented,
| the unrepresented clubs being those
of Nates' school house and Pelion.
| It was a most representative body of
| men and was remarkable in that there
i ttod q crxficph nnt a single debate
TTWO ^ v , 0
I nor a resolution, nor paper cf any
j kind submitted to the convention.
| Perhaps nothing like it was ever
! witnessed in this county and probj
ably in this State before. From the
beginning to the end the convention
transacted the business for which it i
j was called in a harmonious and ori
derly manner. The credit for this,
j in a measure, was undoubtedly due
to the able and businesslike methods
of the Chairman, Hon. C. M. Efird.
who handled the convention the best i
i
that we have ever seen a body of j
men controlled.
Promptly at 11 o'clock County
Chairman SoaDn called the conven- j
L j
tion to order and Hon. C. M. Efird I
wa9 nominated and unanimously [
[ elected temporary chairman and Jas. |
j B. Addy and Samuel B George ternI
porarv secretaries.
On taking the chair Mr. Efird j
thanked the convention for the honor
it had conferred upon him in calling
him to the chair. Heretofore he had
been a candidate seeking political
preferment; endeavoring to climb up
step by step and asking the support
of the people to assist him in doing
so. Now he was no longer a candidate
and asking nothing at their
hands except the continued confidence
of his fellow citizens and the
honor was, therefore doubly appreciated.
