One of hi3 rules of business is not how cheap, but how good and the value cf the article is always in excess of the price paid. i A Sad But Fata! Accident. News of an unfortunate and deplorable shooting accident reached us Sunday afternoon, which occurred at the home of Mr. J. Pierce Hendrix, who resides some distance above this place. Our information is that his little sen got his gun to kill a hawk, the gun exploded and Mrs. Hendrix who went with him, accidentally received the load of shot in her thigh. The main artery was punctured and in a few minutes after receiving the wound she bled to death. She was buried in Pisgah cemetery Monday. All the parties connected with the deplorable tragedy have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. Enjoyed Ij the Profession. The members in attendance at the meeting of the S. C. Medical Association at Spartanburg last week had a huge time. Many interesting ad- I dresses were delivered and valuable I papers read. The banquet given at the Spartanburg Inn was grand and | highly enjoyed by the profession. j In mentioning the respose to toasts The Spartanburg Herald says: "The Country Doctor" was responded to by Dr. D. Alliancs Bssolutions. Resolved, that Lexington County Alliance, No. 721, do heartily approve of the course of her Congressman, the Hon. A F. Frick, Pres. Jas. B. Addy, Sec. Obituary. Martha Ann Elizabeth Hendrix was bom November 13th, 1853, and died April 20th, 1902, making her earthly pilgrimage 48 years, 5 months and 7 days. She leaves a husband, one son and many relatives and friends to mourn Ler departure. She was baptised in infancy and confirmed a member of the Lutheran church while young, of which she remained a faithful member until death. Q. Sa\7 Mill Surned. Messrs. W. W. They will rebuild with a new outfit at once. Mr Barr is one of our successful lumber men and ? while he is able to replace the j machinery the loss is quite heavy. This is the second mill that he hahad the misfortune to lose by fire, his grist and flour mill near his home j. having been destroyed several years ^ ago. 1 3A?. Wilson Long Dead. ? Mr. Wilson Long, who resides g just over the dividing line in New- t berry county, died last Tuesday and c was buried on Wednesday. He was a j brother of Mr. J. W. Long of ? 2 town, and was well known by many f of cur people who served in the civil war. He has the reputation of being ( a man of sterling qualities of charac- ^ ter, strict indignity and was a hard j working and industrious farmer and ( succeeded in accumulating quite a g competency. He was a confederate t scldier and endured uncomplainingly all the hardships and privations incident to those stiring times. Frse Eural Delivery. i Dr. C. Charles Vlarshall, mititary secretary of Gen. Robert E. Lee during the Civil war, md for many years one of the leaders )f the Baltimore bar, died of apoplexy it his home here late last night. He lad been in bad health for about two rears. Col. Marshall was born Oct. 30. 1830, at WarrentoD, Ya. He became i member of Gen. Lee's staff in 18G2 md was attached to him throughout ,he war. He was the only member )f the general's staff who accompanied lim at the surrender at Appomatto^. md the terms of the surrender were irafted by him. [It was the privilege of this writer o know Col. Marshall and often chat,ed with him when receiving and deivering telegraph messages and other irders while discharging messenger 'ervice in the war, and regret to lear of his death.?E3. J Pucker thinks we ought not to have what we already have, how would a law smbodying the following answer the purpose? That each road hand between certain ages pay a commutation tax of one dollar or work three Jays under a contractor. Then to raise an additional fund levy a tax *V?
