this place of the death of Jtff Hallmac,
which occurred at Warrenvilie,
near Grauifceville in this State, on
Monday last. Mr. Haliman was a
native of this county and worked for
awhile at Red Bank where he had
many friends. He married a daughter
of Mr. J. Pickens Jones, who
survives him.

Encouraging Progress.
Mr. Henry V. Rieh was in town
Saturdav and we enioyed a pleasant
/ ^ # ' chat
with him. He closed his school
at Convent on Friday of last week
after a very successful term and has
now announced his candidacy for
matrimony and reports encouraging
progress. We were glad to learn
that business in his neighborhood
was in a hustle and the farmers were
putting in corn rapidly.

Beautify Your Home.
Why not beautify your homes by
the addition of some of the luxuries
of life, such as carpets, mattings,
draparies, etc., when the Mutual Carpet
Co., of Columbia, is selling these
goods so cheap that it is now possible
for a poor man to furnish bis homewith
these attractive articles and
he will scarcely mis3 the money.
Visit this store when in the city and
you will certainly see something that
will please your poor hard worked
wife and to possess which will bring
the bloom of roses to her cheeks the
same as they did when you asked her
to share life's joys and pleasure.

Sallow Skin and Piles.
There is no better remedy for these
common diseases than DR. TUTT'S
LIVER PILLS, as a trial will prove.

Mr. Jasper Son Dead.
Mr. Jasper Sop, a valued employee
of the Lexington Manufacturing Co,
died at his home in this place Monday
after an illness of about two
weeks. Mr. Son was night engineer
at the mill and was faithful and conscientious
in the discharge of his
duties. His remains were carried to
his old home near Leesville for interment,
being accompanied to their last
resting place by a delegation from
Dixie Lodge, No 52, I 0 0 F, of which
order he was a useful member.

Klondike Gold in Lesington. (
While Mr. W. B Roberts and son, (
Junius, were removiug a pile of rock ,
one day last week on the Elbert t
Kaminerold place, they found a gold (
witch in the centre of the pile. The 3
watch bad evidently been there for (
years as the woiks 'wcre so badly ;
coroded as to render them valueless {
I and the case was somewhat discolor- <
ed by the ravages of time, otherwise it *
was in pretty fair condition. Mr.
Roberts did not have a "mineral rod"
but has ever since been turning the
dirt often and deep in the vicinity of
that pile in the wishful .anticipation
of making a rich discovery of gold.
STew Spring Goods.
The stock of spring goods at
Mimnaugh's is conceded to be one of
the prettiest ever seen in Columbia.
Tnis stock has been selected with
great care and embraces many of
the latest creations in millinery and
dress goods, and they will c. rtainly c
meet the approbation of the fashion- ]
able world as well as the ladies who
? . i
love to dress well. Mr. Mimnaugh I
extends a cordial invitation to the ]
ladies of Lexington to call and inspect
these goods. He will take r
pleasure in showing them around his
immense establishments and serve
their wants with the best goods at :
the lowest prices.
