A new cotton mill will soon be
established at Easley, in Pickens

Senator Tillman has been invited

William C. Whitney, the New York
capitalist, has given $1,000, to Mayor
Emanuel to be distributed among
the sufferers from the recent disastrous
fire at Aiken.
A United States torpedo boat on
her trial trip at the naval station at
Beaufort, made two miles in seven
minutes, which is considered by experts
remarkable speed.
A petition praying for the election
on the question of establishing a new
county from portions of Barnwell
and Hampton counties, with Allen

The body of a negro boy was found
on Tuesday of last week under the
depot platform in Greenwood. It is
\ supposed that the boy crawled under
the platform during the recent cold
weather and was frozen to death.
Miss Sallie Parham, 21 years of
age, committed suicide at her boarding
house in Columbia, last week, by
taking laudanum. It is claimed by
those who knew the young lady that
suicide has been her monomania since
childhood. She was a native of

Oliver Greer, a negro boy, was
baDged at Anderson last Friday,
for a criminal assault committed
upon a white lady near Belton. He

Bryan and Watterson.
Washington, March 14 ?William
J. Bryan returned to Washington today
from Culpepper, Ya. During
the morning he received a number of
prominent Democrats and discussed
the coming congressional campaign
and other matters of interest to the
party. He visited the capitol this
afternoon, where he met a large number
of members. While he was a
centre of attraction in the corridor,
Henry Watterson of Kentucky, was
a noticeable figure on the floor of
the chamber in conferece with Representative
Richardson of Tennessee.
