The higher we go the higher up
seems to be the place we want tc
reach.
Character in a young man is everything?especially
if his father isn't
able and willing to pay his debts.
Senator Tillman spent his vacation
lecturing out West. If he is not a

Ga, died recently. He was

Miss Mary F. WilKins, ine auinor
of many novels, and Dr. Charles
Freeman, of Randolph, Mass., were

The darkest hour in the history of
any young man is when be&its down
to study how to get money without
honestly earning it.
When a bachelor thinks of his
mother he wants to get married;
^ when he thinks of his sisters he
wants to wait awhile.

S. C., has been called to St. Paul's

The railroad bands in the arid districts
of Utah are living on the meat
of wild horses. If we had to eat
horse meat, we would prefer the wild
horse.
Charleston, S. C, was the fifth city
in the United States in 1800, being
led only by New York, Philadelphia,
Boston and Baltimore. As late as
1830 it was the sixth city.
The New York post office has been

The following slander on the new
town of Saluda is goiDg the rounds
of the weekly press: "Saluda is a
new countv town blazed out of the
woods and the stumps on the streets
has the appearance of a new ground.
A few days ago a man was arrested
for 8wearing on the streets of that

I have thoroughly convinced myself
that Dr. Baker's Blood and
Liver Cure is the finest medicine
made for Indigestion and Constipation.
(I have tried them all) and
was cured by the use of this medicine,
after all others had failed. I
most cheerfully and unhesitatingly
endorse it. Yours truly,
H. N. Baker, Mayor.

Short Coal Supply.
A coal shortage was reported in
Columbia, S. C., recently. There was
some fear that important industries
would have to stop until coal could i
be shipped in from Virginia. Hap- '
pily the situation was relieved by the
timely arrival of a shipment of coal,
and the necessity of stopping the i
industries was avoided.
