Had'nt Borrowed Trouble.
Many diffident persons find the
r beginning of a conversation awkward,
especially on ceremonious occasions,
and with strangers. Sometime,
however, the beginning is not
" half so awkward as what comes af- j
terward.
A bashful young man on being introduced

'Tve got to take you into dinner,
Miss Travers, and I'm rather afraid
of you, you know. Everyone tells
me you're very clever."
The young lady was Daturally
amused by this display of simplic

"How ab3urb!" she exclaimed. "I'm

Ooce while Daniel Webster was

continued without cessation more

and Mr. Webster remained silent
until it had struck about twenty,
when he thus appealed to the chair:
^ "Mr. President, the clock is out of

The "Wonderful Spider.
V
The body of every spider contains
four little masses, pierced with a
I multitude of boles (imperceptible
to the naked eye), each bole permitting
the passage of a aingle thread,
all the threads, to the amount of
1,000 to each mass, join together
when they come out and make the
single thread witi which the spider
spins its web, so that what we call a
spider's thread consists of more than
4,000 threads united.
