Only 50c. A Pretty Weddiag. Columbia State, Dec. 12. Tbe social event of the year at St. Matthews was the marriage yesterday in St. Paul's Methodist church of T. H. Dreher and Mies Frances Marguerite Wannamakfr, the pastor of the church, Rev. C D. Mann, cffi dating. The church had previously been elaborately decorated with fern?, pa!ra3 aBd cut flower?, and when the bridal party entered at 12 m , end took their places around the altar the large audieDee which crowded the church to ovei flowing, saw a scene of beauty and elegance such as is seldom witnessed in this charm XJg MlJOgO. The attendants were Mr. F. E Dreher, the best men, and brother of the groom, with Miss Blanche Pcu, the cousin and maid of honor of the bride; Mr. E R. Pauling, of Orangeburg, with Miss Bessie Kelly, of Kingstrer: Mr. A. H. Moss, of OraDgeburg, with Miss Minnie Sally, of Orangeburg; Mr. W. G. Peteikin with Miss May Wannamaker, both of St. Matthews; Mr. B. D. Cain, of St. Matthews, with Miss Eleanor Taft, of Charleston; Superintendent E. S. Dreher, of the Columbia City schools, with Miss Elizabeth Cleveland, of Spartanburg; Dr. A B Fisbburne, of Columbia, with Miss Lizzie Dreher, of Lexington, sister of the groom. The ushers were Mr. Carlyle Barton and Mr. Sellers Pauling, both of St Matthews. The music was furnished by Miss Ida Jacobson, presiding at the organ, with a violin accompaniment by her father. The bride, the youngest daughter of the late Capt F. M. WaDnamaker, is a woman of charming personality, refinement and culture, and is loved i and admired by all who know her. She claims the whole town for her friends. Dr. Dreher, a native of Lexington county, came to St. Matthews about ten years ago and is a man of genu ine worth and ability, energy and , push. He has built up a large and lucrative practice and is now one of the most prosperous and progressive men of the community. An elegant dinner and reception were tendered to the bride and grocm by Mr. and Mrs. John Skottowe "Wannamaker, the brother and sister # . i 01 me onue. Dr. and Mrs. Dreher left on the afternoon train for Charleston aDd other southern points, attended ' by about half the bridal party. Caughman, took a lively interest in the passage of the separate coach law. Hjn. Geo. W. Croft, of Aiken, was in Saiuda Monday and again yesterday on legal business. Incidentally he was looking after his interests as a candidate for congress. Solicitor Thurmond, who was here attending to his duties in the court, was also fixing up his political fencer. Stction 270 of the law in reference to the assessment of taxes, (Revised Statutes,) reads as follows; All property shah be valued for taxation at is true value in money, which in all cases not specially provided for by law, shall be held to be as follows, to wit: For personal property the usual selliug price on the usual terms of similar property at administrator's or executor's sales, at the place where the return is made; and for real property, the usual selling price on the usual terms of similar property at sales for partition under order of court, at the place where the return is made. If there is no usual selling price, then at what is honestly believed could be obtained for the same at a fair sale uuder the conditions above mentioned. It shall be the duty of each owner of lands, and of any new structures thereon which shall net have been appraised for taxation, to list the same for taxation with the County Auditor of the county in which they mav be situated on or before the 20th day of February next, after the same shall become subject to taxation. Section 6. That from and after the passage of this act, there shall be assessed upon all taxable polls in this State a tax of one dollar on each poll, the proceeds of which tax shall be applied solely to educational purposes. Every male citizen betwfien the aces of 21 and 60 Years, except those incapable of earning a support, from being maimed or from other causes and except those who are made exempt by law, shall be deemed taxable polls. All returns for taxation must be filed with the Auditor not later than February 20, 1902, as after that date the law requires an addition of 50 per cent, to the last year's return. All real estate to be assessed this year. Township Board of Assessors will meet in some convenient place in their respective townships on Tuesday. March 4. 1902.
