Haltiwanger's old place, in the Fork, and after the viewing the body and .hearing witnesses, the jury returned a verdict that, "Ben Gates came to hi9 death at the hands of parties unknown to the Jury." It is supposed his horse struck ? stump nearby wincb turned the wagon over throwing him out. He was on his way home from Columbia. No other particulars at this writing. Death of 2?r. Joe Foz. We are pained to learn of the death of Mr. Joseph H. Fox, which sad event occurred at his home near Samaria on Sunday, December 8 h, 1901. Mr. Fox one among the oldest inhabitants of the county and was a brother of the late John Fox, who was so well and favorably known daring his life time throughout the county. Mr. Joseph Fox was a hard working farmer, and an honest mar, and courteous gentleman and will be greatly missed in the community wherein he dwelt. A gcolmanhas entered upon his reward. A petition is being circulated among the business men and citizens of this place asking the postmaster at this office to establish a Sunday mail to and from this place. This is a convenience the lack of which has been long felt in this community. Heretofore, if a business man received a letter on Saturday evening which called for an immediate answer he could not get it through the mails until Monday noon, if going south, and in the afternoon of that day if going to Columbia, a distance of twelve miles, or further north, without meeting the trains as they passed to and fro Sunday, which has poven a very annoying and inconvenient airangement. We hope that this act of accommodation on the part if Dr. Leaphart, the postmaster, will be duly appreciated. Choen, the Clever Shoe Man.
