lives in Texas. Many of your readera
remember Mr. John Franklow,
who left Lexington county soon after
the Civil War. I believe Uncle
"Nattv Harman and Mr. Franklow
came to Texas t'.'geih'r and settled
in Grimes county. I hav9 net met
any cf the Harman family, but having
been in the army with Uncla
Natt, I hope to see some of his people

But to return Texas is, in money j
respects, the greatest state in the
world. The round-up of the cowboy
is giving place rapidly to the
steady and onward march of the
plowman. Tbe fertile plains are
being dotted with houses. This ba3

her farmers. Excessive rain9 for
two years past in certain parts and
protracted drought this year puts
the farmers in bad shape. Hope
points bravely to the future, where
hidden lie the fortunes of the faithful

Cameron, Texas, Sept. 28, 1901.
Commissioner Yerkcs, of the Internal
revenue department, has rejected
the claim of tbe State of South
Carolina for a refundment of the
taxes paid by the State agents as
a wholesale and retail liquor dealer,
amounting to something over $7,000.
The case will now go before the
Court of Claims, where it is expected
that the contention of the State will
be sustained.
The will of the late President MeKinlev
has been probated. The
schedule shows that the personal
property will amount to about $140,000
and the real estate to about $70,000,
aggregating; about $200,000.
With the exception of an annuity of
$1,000 which goes to his mother during
her life time, the estate is left to
Mrs. McKinley after whose death it
reverts back to a brother and a niece
j of Mr. McKinley.
