Judge with promptness, clearness
and soundness which makes bim the

will elevate the BeDrb, and shed
lustre on the ermiDe. We wish him
success in his'candidacy.
Col. Wilie Jodps, who has been a
prominent candidate for the United
States senate to succeed non. j? no
L. McLauiiD, has publicly announced
his determination not to enter the
race, and in doing so makes the suggestion
that all the other avowed
candidates withdraws from the race
also leaving the field open for the
unanimous nomination of General
Wade Hampton. This suggestion,
however, will in all probability be
i ejected by the other candidates as
it should be. At this time we neither
oppose nor favor the candidacy of
General HamptoD, but contend that
if he enters the race at all be should
do so under obligations to no one, so
that in the event of his nomination
he wodW be free from any ciubarrHsments

demands and claims of fiitnds upon
his private and political inlluence for
the plums to be divided

County Commissioners Meeting.

the county has had to pay two dam
age claims for drowning and injury
to animals and vehicle. The first of
these was to Mr. L. H Padgett who
was awarded the turn of $115 for
drowning of horse and injury to
wagon while crossing Hucabaa
bridge on the State road, aDd the
second was to Mr. T M Howell, who
was given $10 damages for injury to
his horse while crossing a public
