The Lexington Dispatch G. M. HARMAN. Editor and Publisher. LEXINGTON. S. C., WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 9. 1901. Edmund H D as the head of the Republican party in this Si ate, call ed upon President Rjosevelt and met with a cold reception. Mr E W. Screv- n, of Columbia. his beeD appointed Chief D-puty and Distributing Officer in the in taroal revenue department for South Carolina. John C Capers Ins been tpp ;inted a member of the National Republican Executive Committee to fill the nlace made vacant by the death of Mr. E. A. Webster. It is the opinion of Agricultural ~ ? -t T* x Uommissioner joods oi him the cotton crop of that State will fall short at Iea9t 800 000 bales from the crop of last season. Former Secretary of State, Caleb Powers, of Kentucky, is on his second trial on the charge of complicity in the assassination of Governor Goebel, of that State Governor General Wood has issued ail order formally dissolving the Cuban Constitutional convention with the understanding that if itseervic<8 are again desired be will issue the necessary call. The salaries and allowances have ceased. The police department of Chicago ha3 received instruction * not to permit Emma Goldman, the female Anarchist, to deliver hctures in that city should ehe attempt to do so. This is the proper step to'take. The preacbipg of the doctrine of sedition assassination and rapine is an abuse of the liberty cf free *peech and the sooner it is put a stop to the better for the government. The Patriot announces that Hod. C G DaDtzler, of the Orangeburg Bar, would be a candidate for Judge of the First Circuit. Mr. Dantzler is ODe cf the most prominent lawyers in bis circuit and in fact bis standing at the Bar is second to noDe and be is in every way qualified to discharge the re sponsible duties devolving upon a Judge with promptness, clearness and soundness which makes bim the very person for the place. Hi3 election will elevate the BeDrb, and shed lustre on the ermiDe. We wish him success in his'candidacy. Col. Wilie Jodps, who has been a prominent candidate for the United States senate to succeed non. j? no L. McLauiiD, has publicly announced his determination not to enter the race, and in doing so makes the suggestion that all the other avowed candidates withdraws from the race also leaving the field open for the unanimous nomination of General Wade Hampton. This suggestion, however, will in all probability be i ejected by the other candidates as it should be. At this time we neither oppose nor favor the candidacy of General HamptoD, but contend that if he enters the race at all be should do so under obligations to no one, so that in the event of his nomination he wodW be free from any ciubarrHsments wbich might aiise from the demands and claims of fiitnds upon his private and political inlluence for the plums to be divided Cures Rheumatism or Catarrh through the Blood. County Commissioners Meeting. The Board of County Commission . * a t t t ers transacted consiaeraoie ousmess of public interest at its meeting last Monday. On account of bigh water the county has had to pay two dam age claims for drowning and injury to animals and vehicle. The first of these was to Mr. L.
