E Christmus time this year, tbey had ? a Hanpp an' sleieh ride, over to Goose \ w o Corner, to Joneb' tavern, an' a supper afterward. It's quite a spell sense I've tripped the "light fantastic" to any extent, for that er rbumatiz of mine has pritty well knocked all the gimp out of me. But this time, lots of middle aged folks was a goin', an1 Ezry he was besot to go, too. "Land o' Goshen," says I, "a pritty figger you'd cut over there, with them corns of yourn stickin' out through them holes in yer boots," says I, for Ezry's got corns so bad that he's had to cut holes into bis boots an' shoes Bo's they can bulge through,' an' if you happen to come within an acre of ground of hittin' of them, he's mad enough an' decomposed enough to raise the ruff. AV if a pritty girl should hap pen to step onto 'em, it would be 1 very different to what it is to have an i old woman that weighs a hundred an' seventy-five a treadin' onto 'em, ' says : he, an' he went out of the door lively, for he knows well enough that if i there's anything that I'm specially techy about it's my heft. I hate to be twitted about it. Who's 1 to blame for my bein'so heft}* That's i what I'd like to know? I Wall, when I found how sot he was \ on a goin' to the dancin' party, I i thought I wouldn't say nothin' more * agin it. So I bushed up his Sunday g clothes, and made him a necktie out 8 of one of Ann Mariah's old silk f handkerchers, an' I bought him a 1 stand up collar at the store, an' I * bunted up an old pair of pumps for c myself to wear, but lands sake! I 8 could'n git my feet nowhere anighst 8 them. Strange, how anybody's feet 11 do grow and swell out arter they're old?no not exactly old? but kinder a middle aged. * Ezry he fixed bis boots an7 stock- " in's, eo's he thought nobody would ^ notice 'em, an' he got him a new col- ' lar button at a 5 cents counter of Mr. 0 Brown's store, an' he felt as kinky an' 5 pert as a young Plymouth Rock 1 rooster.
