Sores and Uicers never become chronic
unless the blood is in poor condition ? is
sluggish, weak and unable to throw oft
the poisons that accumulate in it. The
system must be relieved of the unhealthy
matter through the sore, and great danger
to life would follow should it heal before
the blood has been made pure and healthy
and all impurities eliminated from the system.
S.S.S. begins the cure by first cleansing
and invigorating the blood, building
up the general health and removing from
the system A QQHSTAHT DRAW
efretematter. &PON THE SYSTEM,
When this has been accomplished the discharge
gradually ceases, and the sore or
ulce- heals. It is the tendency of these old
indolent sores to grow worse and worse,
and eventually todestrov the bones. Local
applications, while soothing and to some
extent alleviate pain, cannot reach the seat
of the trouble. S. S. S. does, and no matter
how apparently hopeless your condition,
even though your constitution has broken
down, it will bring relief when nothing
else can. It supplies the rich, pure blood
necessary to heal the sore and nourish
the debilitated, di cased body.

THE SWIFT SPECIFIC CO., ATLANTA, GA.
From Lexington. S. C. to Meridian. Miss
To the Editor of the Di-patch:
Thinking perbap- that the readers
of the Dispatch would be pleased to
hear something from the distant
State of Mississippi, I have decided
to write a short description of ray
travels toward the setting sun.
On Tuesday, November 21st, I
boarded the cars at Columbia at G:30
a m., on my way to the "West, coming
ever the Southern by way of
SpaitaLburg, Atlanta and Birmingham,
Ala., to tbi-? city, arriving here
at 4 o'clock Wednesday morniDg,
btiDg three hours late and quite an
unchristian hour for a stranger to be
dumped into a strange city.
The trip was made to the beautiful
and thriving Piedmont City?
Spartanburg, which city we reached
at 10:30 a. m., without incident.
Here we had a long wait for the
through vestibule train from Charlotte
to Atlanta. At last it came
puffing iD, and I hurriedly got on
board, glad to be travelling on as
noting is more detestable to me than
waiting on a belated train. Then we
started on the long run for Georgia's
fair capital, distanced 19G miles from
Spartanburg. The scenery along
' ' - 1 _ ? ,1
me route was oeauiuuuy
rough and rugged. At one place on
the route the road passes through
quite a mountainous country, over
high trestles and through deep
gorges with lofty mountains in full
view. Sometimes skirtiDg precipices
that would make one shudder to be'
hold, then around short curves where
the engineer could be seen by one
riding in th9 rear couch apparently
coming back to pass the car in the
rear. Ail of this was calculated tc
make a fellow a little nervous, es
peciaiiy one that has been accus
toined to the level country of the
Cougaree bottoms of grand old Lex
ington county.
Mr. Editor, it almost makes a mar
homesick to write about LexingtoD
S. C, and have his thoughts trave
back to the old home, with all of itf
pleasures, one thousand miles away
so I will continue my purney on tc
Atlanta that magnificent city tha
General Sherman and his horde o
vandals so ruthlessly destroyed thir
ty five years ago. As I Beared thii
beautiful city of one hundred anc
twenty-five thousand people,
imagined I could hear the booming
of the Yankee cannon in the d:stanc<
and looked with anxious eye forecra
sign of their Ytxndaliam, but whei
we rolled into the spacious depot al
signs of strife were missing am
peace and happiness were picturei
on every face and a mad rush bein|
made for the Almighty Dollar.
We changed cars at Atlanta at
p. m , for Birmingham, Ala., at whicl
place we reached at 11 o'clock a
night; another wait and a chaDge o
cars for Meiidian, Miss.
The train on the Queen and Cie=
ent route was two and a half hour
late with nothing to do but sit in th
waiting room and await the cominj
ox the train. At last some one yells
' Here she comes," and 1 made al
speed pos?. ble to get on board, a
they only made a stop of little mor
than one minute. Soon we wer
thundering on our way to our jour
ne)'s end. The entire trip from At
lanta to Meiidian was made at night

am glad to say that I landed safely
in Meridian at last, completely won
out. Fortunately, or perhaps unfor
tuuately, I found a representative o
the Southern hotel, who courteously

On our arrival at the hotel the clerl
coolly informed me that all of hi:
rooms were occupied, aDd he did no
think that I could find a room in th<
city, as the town was filled with viri

I consoled myself with the though!
that it wa3 only a few hours uuti'
daylight, so I quietly took a seat ir
the lobby, making myself as com
fortable as possible in a rockingchaii
and patiently awaited the dawn oi
day, then I started for the fair
grounds. I have always been au ad
vocate of fairs, but I am more impressed
now with its benefits to a
State by my attendance on this great
fair. They hid here on exhibition
samples of every kind of farm produce,
stock of every kind, cattle,
sheep, hogs and horses. Here I saw
come of the finest specimens in the
way of horse flosh that it has ever
been my good fortune to feast my
eyes upon. Rice horses galore, and
tie racing was first class, Chicago,
Now York and other large cities being
represented on the track. Many
dollars were lost and won.
