Th8 church was prettily and appropriately decorated and the exercises consisted of songs, declamations and rcci'ations, suitable for the occasion, which was for mis /- sionary purposes. R v. W. D. Quick made an effective address after which a collection was taken. The children acted their parts in a very creditable manner and those having the entertainment in charge have every reason to congratulate themselves on the successful termiW nation of it. The time will expire next Monday after which comes the penalty. Obituary. Manly Gartman, of Lexington^ died on October 16, 1900, after an illness of several months at the age of 7S years. Brotber Gartman was kind, generous and was true to bis cburcb, country and State. \Yuen a youDg man be enlisted in tbe Confederate army and made a brave and gallant soldier under tbe banner of tbe Confederacy and we trust" a faithful one under the banner of tbe cross. He leaves one daughter to mourn bis departure, to whom tie said when the battle between life and death was fiercely raging, that he was not afraid to die. Lord give us all such a faith as this. Prof. Arthur Fort Harman, and his charming young bride, arrived yesterday from Montgomery, Ala., where they were married on the 24th instant, on a visit to the parents of the former. Colonel and Mrs. M. D. Harman. They received their friends last evening at the hospitable home of the parents of Prof. Harman, and a pleasant evening was spent in giv ing and receiving congratulations. During the evening elegant refreshments were served those present, and the time passed as merrily as the music of a marriage bell.
