At a meeting of the directors of
The First National Bank of Batesburg
held lost Friday, it was f(.und
that that baDk is doing a business
far in excess of the expectations of
its most sanguine fr'ecds. It has
been developed that the bank fills a
long felt want, not cnly of the town
of Batesburg, but the contiguous
country and is, therefore, an established
fact. It is officered by some
of the soundest business men in that
section of the county, and its board
of directors consists of gentlemen
who have made financial successes of
their own business and it follows that

The extra trains for the Augusta
end of thje Southern Riil-vay for the
State Fair will be run cn Wednesday
and Thursday of next week, leaving
Augusta at 7 o'clock a. m.

place at 7:00 a. m. and arriving in
Columbia at the F?ir Grounds at
10:20 a. m.

Too hot for October.
The building and property boom is
the best just now that it has been in
Leesville for years. The prospects
are it will continue for an indefinite
period.
The coilpge boys have arrayed
themselves in bran new cadet gray
uniforms, brass buttons and cadet
stripes are a new and pleasiDg feature
of this session of our college.
C-ipt F. H. Derrick, who has charge
of the ruilitiry department, will taKe
the boys to the State fair.
Early last Wednesday morning,
(17th) Mrs. H. P. Bouknigbt
breathed her last and her soul returned
to the God she loved to serve
Mrs. Bouknigbt was a loviDg and
faithful wife, a kind neighbor, an
humble and consecrated Christian
Her deeds were deeds of kindorss,
her acts were those of mercy. Her
life, her teachings and example were
exemplary. She will be missed, but
God has called her and we must not
m urmur.
The n mains were enterred in the
Lutheran cermtery, and well might
we say that beneath the sobre pine
sleeps one of the sweet*st women
God ever breathed his bles-ings on.

will commence the erection of a fine
residence on Broad street next week.
