The above dispatch relates to reenforcements sent to the island of Marinduque, where Capt. Shields and 51 men of the Twenty uiritb volunteer infantry were either killed or captured by the insurgents. At that time Gen. Mcirthur sent Col. Anderson and two companies of the Thirty-eighth volunteer itifanlry with the Yorktown and two gunboats to the relief of Shields and bis command if they were still alive. It is evident that G.jn. MacArtbur j thinks reenforcement8 are necessary, \ as Col. Anderson was able to accomplish notbiDg with the small force which was first sent out. ol'r soldiers die in mountains. Washington, Oct. 4 ?Gen. Mac j Arthur reported to the war department today that five soldiers died i'd the mountains of LaguDa province after having made their escape from the insurgents by whom thay had been captured. The date of their death is unknown and no details are furnished as to the manner of their i death. It is supposed, however, that they perished from starvation and exposure, having lost their way in the mountains in their endeavor to return to their comrades. In the absurd publications with which compress owners fill certain Southern papers tbey tail tc miorm the public that their motive is not j philanthropy but dollars. Long accustomed to make big profits out of the necessity of reducing the old bale's size by a second compression,' they have come to believe that cotton \ is grown in order that it may be compressed. The farmer, however, does not labor early and late merely to provide a fat living for a privileged class. He sells his cotton to the: man who will give bim the most j money, aDd he has it baled in the! way that will cost him the least. Died at his home, near Leesville,' S. C., on the 16th instant, Mr. AaroD : Hutto, aged 49 years, 5 months and 4 days. On the 2Gth day of December,: 1879, he was married to Miss L. J. Clark. To them were born six children, five sens and one daughter;; all of whom are living. Mr. Hutto, wae a devoted and affectionate husband and father, a true friend,}a quiet and good Deighbcr and citizen. Peace to his ashes and rest to his soul. J. E. E .Church for many years and died in that faith, and we believe i in the full triumph of the Gospel faith. She was the widow of Jacob Clemons who was a soldier in the war of 1835, with the Indians in the State of Florida. A brave Express messenger refused to turn over his employers' money to a train robber, but instead opened fire and put six bullets into the train robber's body killing him instantly.
