Last Sunday night between 9 and
10 o'clock flames were discovered is- |
suing from the waste house of the !
Lexington Manufacturing Company,
situated between the mill and creek !
The building, which was a wooden
one, together with several bales of
waste, was burned to the ground.
The origin of the fire is unkuown,
but it is supposed to have been from
spontaneous combustion. When the
alarm was first given the people up i
town thought that it was the mill it
self on fire ana were greatly relieved
when they found out their mistake.

from Batesburg to oppose the tearing
up of the Carolina Midland rail ^
road. That Senator D. M. Crosson
in behalf of Lexington county and j
Senator D. S. Henderson in behalf
of Aiken county were present, and j
chosen as representatives to appear
before the committee. That they j
were the only opposing representatives
that appeared before the committee,
and that shortly after the
able speeches made by Senators
Crosson and Henderson, the commit- '
tee made an unanimous report which
was unfavorable to the tearing up of ^

He was married to Miss Mary
Corlev, Feb. 11, I860. To them were

born 3 sons and 4 daughters, and 2
grand children. Two son3 and one
daughter and his wife preceded
him to the spirit land.
He was baptized in infancy, and in '
early life was confirmed a member of
Zion's E L church, and was true to ^

the same until last year,- when he j
united with a new E. L congregation i
organized in his own neighborhood j *
He was an Elder of the same, and !
one of the building committee. But J
his work on earth is done, another
j ?
must fill his place hrre. He was j
faithful as a soldier, a husband, a
father, a neighbor, and above all, as a I
Christian. His remains were laid to j
rest in the family burial ground in j j
the presence of a large concourse of j 1

show of its own and sent invitations

to meet with them on that day and

of voters and a goodly sprinkling of
meujbprs of the State party, who

speech making. All the candidates
for Governor were present with the
exception of Governor MeSweeuej
who was detained much to his re
gret, in Columbia by liis effieial
duties which demanded his immedi
