Died at bis home, near Samaria, in
Lexington county, S. C, on the 15th
day of June, 1900, Mr. Wm. Howard, j
aged 83 jears, 4 months and 1 day. i
Mr. Howard was born in Lexington
county and spent all of his long and j
useful life as one of her citizens. !
He was married to Miss Mary j
Quattlebaum on the 20th of Decern- j
ber, 1835. Of this union two chil
dren were born, viz S. H. Howard, j
now of Augusta, Ga , and Mrs. J. G.!
Able. Me was a man ot more tnan
ordinary force of character and
always bore a cheerful disposition, i
Prior to the civil war he served four
years as Road Commissioner. During
the war he held the position of
Lieutenant in Quattlebaum's company
of the 6th battalion of South !
Carolina State troops.
After the war he was elected on
the first Board of Commissioners j
under the new constitution and by !
