Leaphart, Secty. April 28, 1900. PEAK. ( LIB MEETING. The Peak Democratic club met in the town hall at Peak, S. C, cn April 2Sih, 1900. Mr. 0 L. Mayer, as President, called the meeting to order. In the absence of the acting Secretary, Mr. James H. Hope was elected to that office pro. tern. The election of officers for another term was then takers up, resulting in the election of Mr. O. L. Majer, as President; Mr W M. Wilson, Vice Presided; Mr. W. 0. Haltiwanger, Treasurer; and James H. Hope, Secretary. The election of Executive Committeeman was then considered and Mr. James B. Addy was chosen to that office. Next in order was the election of five delegates (with their alternates), to the County Convention. A motion which prevailed was made for the Cuair to appoint five as a committee to nominate these delegates and alternates to represent this club in the coming County Convention. The following gentlemen were chosen by the Chair to nominate these delegates, Messrs. John C. Swygert, James B Addy, 0 B Counts, J. A W. Stoudemayer and W. M. Wilson. The committee nominated these as delegates: James H. Hope, James B Addy, 0. L. Mayer, W. E. P Haltiwanger and W. M. Wilson. These were chosen as alternates: Messrs. J- D. Wheeler, James W. Eargle, J. ''Be it, resolved, that we, the Peak Democratic club, in convention assembled, do heartily endorse the course taken by Dr. Wm. J. We regard with special1 favor his measure for the extension of the benefits of the Free Rural Mail Delivery system as well as the advantages that will accrue to residents of the county districts from the Star Route plan of mail delivery. We commend his persistent, determined opposition to the Loud Bill, a measure that contemplated serious abridgment of the privileges of the rural press, truckled to the interests of the railroad magnates, and, in consequence militated against the interests of rural residents. His efforts to secure the en actment or an anti option Jaw, to put a period forever to tbe nefarious work of gambling in futures, entitle him to the plaudits of the producers of the nation, the well done of a confiding and grateful constituency.
