The farmers are taking advantage of the fine weather we are having with a vengence and are making every lick count. The indications now are that there will be a considerable increase of acreage planted in cotton than was at first supposed. H. After a lingering illness, duiiog which her sufferings were excruciating, Mrs. J. Archie Wolfe, died at her home in Sandy Run, on Sunday, April 1st, 1900. She had been a long sufferer from disease and all that medical skill and tender loving hands could do to effect a cure and to alleviate her pains was done, but alas, they were fruitless. She was a noble hearted Christian woman, who uncomplainingly bore her severe trial with a meekness, which adorns and beautifies the Christian character and relied imolicitv unon the nrom * 4T 1 ises of her Lord that after this life's fitful fever was over she would enter the city of the new Jerusalem, where pain and affliction, suffering and death never enter. As? wife, she was true to every obligation; as a mother, she was affectionate aud indulgent and as a neighbor, she was kind and generous. A good woman has entered upon her everlasting reward in that mansion, not made with hands eternal in the heavens. She was buried in the Wolfe graveyard on Sandy Run last Monday, in the presence of weeping relatives and sorrowing v%and sympathising friends. Amazingly Correct. A now star has arisen on the weather prophet firmament and shines with dazzling and refulgent brightness, which eclipses all of its fellow stars. Auditor G. A. Derrick has developed a fondness for forcasting weather conditions and some of his predictions are amazingly and astonishingly accurate and in this respect he is far ahead of Devore, I. Hicks, Gen. Greely and other noted weather prognosticators. Before his unerring foresight all our local prophets have retired in envy and chagiin. His last prediction i3 that there will be a tremendous freeze immediately after the summer primaries?for some of the candidates. Satisfactory Results. William Stokes is the first persoD to announce his candidacy through the columns of the Dispatch for a political office. If the early bird catches the worm, Dr. Stokes will catch the nomination for Congressman from the Seventh District, a position which he has so ably filled for the last three or four terms to the satisfaction of his constituents. Spann, atLeesville, was destroyed by fire last week. At the time it was unoccupied and the origin of the fire is unexplainable. The loss is covered by insurance. Pursuant to a call of the Democratic Evecutive Committee for Lexington county, a meeting of the Lexington Democratic club is hereby called to meet in the court bouse at Lexington, on Saturday, April 28ib, 1900, at 3 o'clock p. m., for the purpose of re-organiziDg. Harold Thomas will hold Episcopal services at this place every second Sunday of each month instead of the third Sunday as heretofore, consequently there will be Episcopal services next Sunday morning and evening at the usual hours. The Tuesday night service has been changed from the 1st to the 4ih Tuesday night. On nnnnnnt nf this ehflrxre there will be no Lutheran services next Sunday, but on the 3rd Sunday services will be held in the new Lutheran church when further announcements will be made. April Salesday. A slim crowd indeed was in town on last Monday, whichjwas salesday in April. About the only persons from a distance were the various magistrates, who came to receive their quarteily stipends and were made happy by hearing the jingle of the filthy lucre as it found a safe resting place in their pockets.
