"We are glad to learn that Mr. D. D. D. Mitchell, who has been quite ill, is improving. He is a prominent man and has served his county as a commissioner and magistrate. There are a few outstanding school claims which Treasurer Derrick is anxious to get hold of and he wants the holders to present them for payment at his office on Saturday, March 17th. A Columbia manufacturer is publishing some unique and original reading notices in the papers of that city, which catches the eye and invites the attention of the reader. They also have a full line of wagons, road carts and other vehicles. Examine their stock before purchasing. Billy Martin, the harbinger of spring, returned from his winter home in Cuba last Saturday. I The Fair Association. The Executive Committee of the Lexington County Fair Association met in the office of Messrs. EfirJ & Dreher last Monday, the 12th iust. The following members being present: Maj J. H. Counts, G. F. Keisler, C. M. Efird, Dr. C. E. Leapbart, J. Walter Dreher, G. W. lieeder, T. H. Caughman, H. J. Rawl, W. B Taylor, C. W. C lughman, W. Q. M. Borley, Heber R. Dreher, M. D HirmaD, W. P. Roof and T. P. Meetze. The President, J. H. Counts, re ported the Association as being on firm financial basis and was now in a flourishing and properous condition. Mr. C. M. Efird, chairman of the finance committee, made an encouraging verbal report and asked for further time to submit a written report to be embodied in the minutes of this meeting. The request was granted. A motion was made providing for post for repairs to the Fair grounds which was tabled and the matter was referred to the building com | mittee with power to act. C. M. Edrd, Esq., was unanimous- j ly re-eleced General Superintendent j of the Association. It was decided to open the Fair on Tuesday, October 23rd, and continue for three days. Mr. H. J. Dr. Leaphart introduced a motion to off^r a second premium on all articles in the household department, entitled to such which after due consideration was lost, but it wa3 decided to attach red ribbon on all second best articles in household and fancy and needle work departments. The premium on horses was referred to the committee on premium list, the said committee being instructed to keep within the bounds of th^ premiums effjred^by the present list. The arrangement for premiuma on chickens was referred to the same committee with instruction to strike out from No. 402 to 400 and to reduce ail premiums on chickens 25 per cent. The committee on premium list was instructed to offer premiums on all articles of manufacture the same not to exceed $2 nor be less than 25 cents and competition to be confined to the county. On motion the Superintendent was authorized to select a judge for the horse department, at a3.reasonable a figure as possible. The Secretary was authorized to provide mu^ic for the threo days of the Fair. The horse and mule departments were consolidated and Mr. w. m. Berley was elected Superintendent and C. W. Caughman, Assistant Superintendent. The Treasurer was authorized to select a ticket agent to sell tickets at the gale. The General Superintendent was instructed to make arrangements for an adequate supply of water on the Fair grounds by the time for the next Fair. The committee on Fair grounds was instructed to take such steps as are necessary to put the arena in proper condition by the next Fair. The old Confederate soldiers were invited to meet in re-union on the last day of the Fair and that they be admitted to the grounds free of charge. The arrangements for the young ladies to ride at the Fair was referred to the committee on entertainment. It was decided not to allow the exhibitor of stock to be his own attendant. A Henry, director of the experimental station at Mauison, Mis3., advises farmers to thoroughly saturate seed oats in a solution made by adding one pound of formaliu to fifty gallons of water. [ He is a young mm and has made many friends since among us. It is rumored tint he will not trot much longer in single harness. Dr. A. C. Lingford and his daughter, Miss Josephine, are spending a few days with his son, Dr. John R Langford. Miss Joe is a good organist and her presence at the organ at the Sunday school on last Sabbath was a very pleasant rominder of the days when she taught the school here and was regularly at her position in church and Sunday school. Miss Lillie Gantt has returned home from a visit to fiiends and relatives at Batesburg. On last Sunday the Baptist Sunday school reorganized for the year's work by the eloction of A. J. Qaattlebaum Superintendent; Bennie Williams assistant, and Jas. E. Gantt Secretary. The assistant and secretary are young in the cause but A J.
