Terrible Accidsn''.
' There was a terrible and fatal accident
on the Columbia, Xef.berry

river bridge, near Columbia, last Sat
urdiy afternoon about 1:30 o'clock,
J in wbicb four mr-n, without a mo
ments warning, were hurled into
eternity.
Tbe fearful accident occurred on
1" that part of tbe trestle where it
i joins the steel biidgp. When tbe
1 rock train, which went through the
I tiestle, reached this poiut and three
cf the fltt cars bad passed on to the
steel bridge the crash came. The
State, describing the horroiirg scene
at the wreckage says:
"The fearful accident was due to
troubnoau r.f the trecjfle work, bilk
1 to the derailment or collapse of one
of the heavily laden rock cars, this
simply teaiicg down the trestle for a
distance of possibly 200 feet. The
engine went with the falling trestle
and landed fully 200 feet from the
point where it left the trestle work
evidently being hurled through the
air as if from a catapult."
The four lives lost were
Engineer W. L. Weathersbcc,
