The Lexington Dispatch | Burned April 25th; rebuilt July 19. 1894. G. M. HARMAN. Editor and Pub'ish?r. ~ LEXINGTON, C.7~ WEDNESDAY. AUGUST 16. 1899. A Boy's Essay cn Tobacco. Tobacco grows something like a cabbage, bat I never saw none cooked. I have heard men say that cigars was given them election day for nothing was mostly cabbage leaves. Tobacco stores kept by wooden Injuns, who stand at the door and tffer them a bunch of cigars, which is glued iDto the Injun's hand and is made cf wood also. I - tried to smoke a cigar once, and I felt like Epsom salts. Tobacco was invented by a man named Walter Raleigh. When the people first saw him smokiDg they thought he was a steamboat aDd was frightened. My sister Nancy i3 a girl. I don't know whether she likes tobacco or net. There is a yonng man named Leroy who comes to see her. He was standing on the steps one night and he bad a cigar in bis mouth and said he did not know as she would like it and she said, ''Leroy, the perfume is agreeable.'' But when my big brother Tom lighted his pipe Nancy said, "Get out of this house, you horrid creature; the smell of tobacco makes me sick." * Snuff is Iojun meal made out of tobacco. I took a little snuff once, then I sneezed. Volcanic Eruptions Are grand, but Skin Eruptions rob life of joy. "My own reasons for being sober are my boys, my wife, my fellows, myself and my God. "I believe that God is in the Keely Cure as much as I believe the devil is in the saloons." < Cure for Lock-jaw. i' - i Here is something for the doctor's scrap bock: A resident of Asbury Park, N. Y., says that he has cured eleven cases of lock-jaw by hot water * treatment. His instructions are: V,- "Put the patient in a bath of warm water and place in it one pound of * mustard.
