No Smallpox There. Sanitary Inspector Reardon in a communication in the State of Monday last, says that there "is one very mild case ef 'varioloid,' and two cases of smallpox convalescent," at Bateeburg and that the two latter are being held by him at the smallpox camp. He has vaccinated end revaccinated about 500 persons so that the entire population almost has been rendered immune. It now looks like all danger of a further spread of the disease has passed. - He considers Batesburg a safe place for people to visit either on business or socially. Campaign Meetings. George, died suddenly at his home near the LexiDgton Manufacturing Company's Mill, on last Saturday night, of hemorrhage of the lunge. He was up Saturday attending to his duties as usual and those who saw him had no idea that he was 60 near death's door and ere another day would dawn his spirit would take its eternal flight from its earthly tabernacle into the portals of that mysterious land from whose bourne no traveler returns. His remains were carried to the old family burying ground, near Peak Monday, for interment. He has been residing in thi3 place for a number of years. He leaves a wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his departure. St. Stephen's Congregation. The place of divine services for the immediate future of St. Stephen's congregation will be in the Episcopal chapel. Our congregation and the public may expect services at that chapel every Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, except on fifth Sundays. McCartha and Milton Kyzer have been summoned to Columbia to testify n behalf of the defendant in the ;ase of the State vs. Willie H. Meelze vhich will be tried in the Richland * :ourt, beginning today. The annual barbecue at Mr. D. M. Drafts' place, a few miles north of aere, is announced in this issue for fnly 22nd. This barbecue is gen?rally well attended by the people of :he surrounding country as everybody who goes has a fine time. The Southern Railway will sell Fourth of July excursion tickets, at the rate of one and one-third first :las3 fare and second class tickets will be sold for one first class fare for the round trip. These tickets will be on sale July 2nd to the 4th and good to return until July Tih. Freeholders and tenants should see to it that their premises are thoroughly cleansed and lime and other disinfectants lite: ally sprinkled about the place. Cleanliness is next to Godliness una it is just as much a duty to be clean as it is to be Godly. The barbecue at Mr. J. 13. Sex's this year promises to surpass any one previously held there. These annual re unions are always looked forward to with much pleasure by the neighbors of the community and generally a large crowd is in attendance. Hollow Creek Township is now the only township in the county that is not traversed by a railroad. This is one of the best and richest townships in the county and is on a direct line from Columbia to Saluda court house and a line of railroad fiom the former place to connect with the proposed Black Diamond somewhere between Saluda and Augusta is one of the possibilities of the near future. This case came up at the June term of the court of sessions, but the Solicitor sent it back to the Magistrate for trial, the case beiDg cut of his jurisdiction. Magistrate Kaminer again sent up the case and the negro is in jail in default of bail. R*v. Henry Fallaw, a promising young divine of the Biptist denomination, preached very able sermons to large and appreciative congregations in the Baptist church in this place last Sunday morning and evening. Rev. Fallaw is a young man of marked ability and has great possibilities for future usefulness in the Master's service. Our News-Letter says: The Ma sonic picnic at Dtdmar was a grand success. O. Shepherd E-q, and Rev. S. T. Hallman addressed the crowd in the morning. Af:er they had eaten of the sumptous dinner which the good ladies had prepared they were again addressed by Prof Haynes of Leesville. His address was on education. The citizens of this vicinity should not forget that Messrs. Howard & Fallaw will serve a first class batbecuo at this place near the Lexington Manufacturing Company's mill.
