The Lexington Dispatch Burned April 25th; rebuilt July 19, 1894. G. M. HADMAN. Editor aDd Pub'ishor. LEXINGTON, S. C., WEIN-SDAY. JUNE 21, 1899. In and Around Easter. To the Editor of the Dispatch: The dry weather, measles, small pox and commencements are the chief topics of conversation in this section at present, with now and then a picnic to spread the diseases and make more and more the already dusty roads more and more unpleasant to travel. Crops are doing as well as could * ? ? ?:? a. .4..., te expecieci considering mc uij weather. Wheat and oats are beiDg harvested aDd is turning out very well. It is hoped that the farmers will learn the great lesson of "living at home and boarding at the same place," ere long and thereby briDg about a great change in the farming world. That it is needful for U3 to do this, is an undeniable fact. Then, why not do it? XT'". Ed, Lowman, of Norway, was in this section last week, the guest of Dr. Kneece. It was a jolly crowd that went fishing Saturday, but, oh, my ! how different they were on their journey homeward? Can you guess why they were sad? It was disappointment that is all. If they would happen to such luck everytime they would soon learn that the old negro was right when he said "blessed am dey what spects but little so dat dey won't be disappointed." Mr. Elijah Hall is putting up a saw mill near his turpentiue distillery, near Samaria Mr. Hall is one of the most energetic young business men in our community and we wish for him abundant success in his new enterprise. Mr. A. B. Quattlebaum of Stead1 man's, was up last week on business. We are glad to note that Mr. T. B Quattlebaum is up again after several weeks of illness. The Sunday school at Hulon Academy is in a prosperous condition under the leadership of Superintendent George M. Adams. We now have about eighty pupils on oui roll with an average attendance ol about sixty five. To hear our little tots recite perfect lessons Sundaj after Sunday would put many 6 young man to shame. The mosl interesting feature is a class of little boys and girls taught by Miss Nils Adams, the cbprmiDg daughter oi our highly respected superintendent Ask Landon Quattlebaum whal young lady in Leesville was marriec a few days ago. What young man is afraid to go tc see his "B. G,1' on account of smal. pox? It is L , too, I think. Aren'l you sorry for him? With much success to the gocc old Dispatch. Tom. June 10, 1890. OBITUARY. Died, near Boiling Springs church Lexington county, June 6, 1899, Mrs. Shealy, wife of Samuel Shealy in the 31?t year of her age. She was baptized in infancy and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Union church, in early life and remained a faithful member of the same until God said arise and depart for this is not thy rest. She leaves a husband and a host of relatives and friends to mourn for her, but we hope their loss is her eternal gain. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at , Boiling Springs church.
