Out of respect to the memory of the late Governor Ellerbe, all the county offices were closed last Saturday. Mr. Oscar D. Seay, principal of the Lexington Classical Institute and 1 his wife, is quite sick at his home in this place. While getting out of the way of a horse yesterday the little girl of West Bawl, fell over some wood and broke her arm. Rev. J. G. Graichen, pastor of St. Stephen's Lutheran church, was called to Winchester, Ya , last week, on business. The tools of the contractor, who is to complete the new church of St Stephen's congregation, have arrived and it is presumed that the work will be commenced at once. The protracted meeting, which has been in progress in the Baptist church at this place for the past two weeks, was brought to a close last Monday evening after accomplishing much good in extending the .Kingdom of God. Miss Helen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Bradford, of this place, 1 who is attending The Home School at Athens, Ga , has been awarded first honor of the music class, making two successive years she has won this honor. The pension money is now in the hand of Clerk Spann for payment to those who have been given a pension. He is anxious to pay out this money and those whose names appear on the pension roll would confer a favor if they will call immediately. L)brand died at his home in this county last "Wednesday, May 31st, 1890, in the 81st pear of his age. He was an upright honest man of God whose walk and conversation marked him as one who had made bis peace with his creator. A.t the breaking out of the Cival war he was among the first to respond to the call of his State and served her through the entire war faithfully and with conspicious bravery. He was a nember of St. David's church in whose cemetery his mortal remaius ileeo the sleen of the iust. 1 1 V - - The contract for building the Savannah extension of the Southern Railway has been let to T. 13. Jones fc Co., of Baltimore. Work on it vill be commenced immediately and he contract calls for it to be com )leted by December, but the con,ractor3 say that they will have it lone by November. The buildiDg of his extension means a big thing for iur county as it will pass through a >ortion which is now isolated and iway from transportation facilities. * Mr. W. Boyd Evans, private ecretary of the late Governor Elerbe, has faithfully discharged his rying duties to the satisfaction of 1 he public. During the last illness ^ ?f the Governor, he has had great esponsibility resting upon him, but le met every requirement and _ jroved himself worthy of the confi lence and esteem placed in him.
