Death cf Mrs. W. S. Ele:zer.
We learn with regret that Mrs. W.
S Eleazer died at her home, at
^ SpriDg Hill, last Wednesday, after a
long and painful illness. She was a
woman known far and wide for her
kindness of hand and heart and
lovely disposition. She was an excellent
neighbor and a devout, earnest
and zealous Christian. The community
in which she resided has lost
a public spirited friend and her
acquaintances a warm, considerate,
lovable companion.
It is folly for people to subject themselves
to attacks of chills and lever and
malarial troubles, when by the timely use
of Ramon's Liver Pills A Tonic Pellets and
Ramon's Pepsin Chill Tonic they can so
fortify their syst> ms a- to entirely prevent

Mr. Charles C. Summer, who was t
convicted of killing Mr. J. W. Mar u
dock at Peak, and sentenced for 1 e t
in tbe penitentiary is now a free man c
ag tin after languishing in jail for
abor 15 months. Last Monday he t
was notified that Governor E lerbe c
had favorably considered his petition i
for pardon and had granted his
prayer. Tbe proper papers were v
served on the proper officers and Mr. L
Summer was liberated that after- c
noon.
Since his conviction bis attorney, t
Col. George Johnstone, and his r
friends and relatives have worked
with unflaging devotion to have him c
pardoned. His petition contained the g
names of about three thousand per- c
sons, residing in this, Newberry and ?
Fairfield counties, among whom weie i
some of our best known citizens. 1
The ladies of the neighborhood in ?
which Mr. Summer resided joined n t
the effort in his behalf and lent valuable
and effective services. A ?
majority of the jurors who sat at the j
trial signed the petition as did the \
presiding Judge, who endorsed the
justness of the request by say ii g (
"that the prisoner undoubtedly had
thegreatest provocation for the deed." (
The petitioners asked for the pardon j
as a simple act of justice and with ' (
such a strong petition Governor J
Ellerbe could not have turned a ! (
deaf car and refuse to grant the I
pardon asked for and at the same ! .
time, done justice to the State aBd j
