Swansea church in Conference, April
1st, 1899.
"Whereas, God in His inscrutable
providence has removed from the
toils and trials of life to her brighter
home our beloved sister, Mrs. Carrie
Dowling, arid whereas we will miss
her wise counsels and advice.
Resolved 1st, That we bow in
humble submission to the providences
of Almighty God and that we
admonish our church to emulate the
virtues of our departed sister.
2nd. That we extend to the bereaved
family our heartfelt sympathies
8nd at the same time point
them to Him who is the friend indeed
to the orphans and who never
forsakes them.
3rd. That one page of our minute
v book be dedicated to her memory.
4th. That a copy of there resolutioi s
be sent the bereaved family and also

"The most remarkable experience
with a burglar that I ever heard of," ^
said Colonel Calliper, "was that of ,
Jason Frognip, a friend of mine who
once lived in Storkville Centre, Vt.
Two of Mr. Frognips children were 1
sick with diphtheria, and a number
of Dights he and Mrs Frognip were
up with them pretty much all night.
At about quarter past two on one of
these nights Mr. Frognip went down
into the kitchen for something. He '
carried no light, for be was familiar 1
with every nook and corner cf his '
house. He had ->n a pair of felt
slippers, and as he stepped noiselessly
across the kitchen no heard a 1
burglar outside woikiDg at the back 1
door. Mr. Ftognip felt very bad 1
about his cbildret.; but it almost <
made bim laugh to think how easily <

very little sympathy for the Filipinos.

has written to all members of

Lieutenant Bill, a British officer
with the Belgian troops in the Congo
Free States in Africa, recently captured
by the natives in a fierce fight,
was afterwards killed and eaten.
A farmer was standing at the foot

Mr. R. B McKay, a prominent
merchant of Columbia, died at his
home in that city on Tuesday of last
week, after an illness of some weeks.
Mr. McKay has been prominently
identified with the business interest
of Columbia for over twenty
